AB - This paper presents the results of a study on the effects of operating a forest triple seeder implement aggregated onto tractors of various nominal powers. The difference in nominal power among the tractors was 8.5 kW. The seeder implement utilized in the study is a technical solution from FE "Sremska Mitrovica". The research was conducted on areas prepared for the underseeding of pedunculate oak seeds. The paper analyzes the effects of seeder operation based on tractor power. The study employed work analysis, specifically the method of photochronometry and flow measurement of time. The research results indicate that under identical operating conditions, a tractor with higher Topola/Poplar 2024, 213, 43-54 www.ilfe.org 44 power achieves higher average speeds in all operating conditions, with differences of approximately 15%. The operational effects vary depending on the length of the plot, as an increase in length reduces the proportion of turnaround time in the total operation time. One of the factors influencing operational effects is the distance of the seed loading point from the seeder's basket. To minimize the impact of this time, it is necessary to select the optimal position for the seed loading point before starting operation. The definition of operating conditions is determined based on the condition of the cutting preparation and soil moisture. During operation, there were interruptions due to design flaws in the seeder, with operational effects ranging from 1.81 ha/day to 4.05 ha/day depending on tractor power, the condition of the sowing area, and plot length. The average fuel consumption of higher-powered tractors per effective hour of operation under identical conditions is 23.3% higher.

AB - This research was carried out in a selection stand of beech and fir, where logging was performed with chainsaws of different powers. Two chainsaws of 3.9 kW were used for work on one area, while on the other one the applied tools were a combination of a smaller and a larger saw (2.5 kW and 3.9 kW). After logging, the consumption of energy products (fuel (gasoline and motor oil mix ratio 50:1) and chainsaw oil) was measured for each individual chainsaw by the method of refueling. It was found that the power of the chainsaw, i.e., the combination of chainsaws of different powers, significantly influences the consumption of energy products in a beech-fir mixed stand. By using a combination of one larger and one smaller chainsaw instead of two larger chainsaws, savings of about 26% for fuel and 24% for oil were achieved. The prediction analysis found that by using two chainsaws (of lower and higher power) instead of two higher power chainsaws (currently common mode of work) in beech stands for an estimated volume of about 1 million m(3) year(-1), the savings could be about 54,000 L of fuel and about 19,000 L of oil. In monetary value, this is a saving of about EUR 120,000 year(-1), i.e., of about 2,500,000 MJ year(-1) of energy.

AB - Planning forest truck roads network involves a lot of factors that directly affect their density and length. Depending on the purpose of the forest truck road network, this number is higher or lower. Our opinion was that these factors should be divided into invariable and variable. Common parameters, regardless of the purpose of the roads, are morphometric parameters because they can limit the length and density of the network of forest truck roads due to their variety of forms. For this reason, this paper deals exclusively with the morphometric characteristics of the terrain and their influence on the density of the network of forest truck roads. The DEM of the terrain was processed with GIS software based on the seven most important influencing factors. By standardizing the criteria, the obtained maps were reclassified, and then each of the seven selected parameters was weighted with the coefficients obtained by the AHP method. In this way, a map of the suitability of the terrain for the construction and addition to the existing network of forest truck roads was obtained. The terrain is divided into 4 categories of suitability. Zero lines were drawn with GIS tools for road design. During the creation of the optimal road network, it was tested with absolute and relative openness. As a final result, each of 26 Forest Economic Areas (FEA) was assigned to one of 4 categories of terrain suitability for the construction and density of the forest truck road network. For each category of terrain convenience, the optimal absolute and relative openness is shown. Based on this work, we suggest that the use of morphometric parameters should be considered as the first step of forest road planning in other regions.

AB - Forest road construction in protected areas is one of the most pronounced anthropogenic activities. In order to reduce the negative impacts of forest roads on the environment, the planning of a multi-functional network of forest roads must be approached in a planned way, taking into account a number of aspects. The paper selects seven most influential criteria for determining suitable locations for forest road construction in a protected area using the Delphi method. A part of Fruska Gora National Park in Serbia was chosen as the research area. The invitation was sent to 36 experts, and 32 participants accepted the invitation. The group of experts found that the most influential criteria are: fire risk, transportation distance, connection with populated areas, wood volume, felling volume, presence of water springs and terrain slope. The average number of points ranged from 70.35 for the criterion "terrain slope" to 85.35 for the criterion "fire risk". The largest number of criteria selected in the Delphi procedure belong to the group of economic criteria, although the forests are located in protected areas.

AB - In the last few years, harvesters have been increasingly used in stands of deciduous tree species. The use of harvesters in Serbia began in 2008 with John Deere 1470D Eco III and it was used for felling trees and production of wood assortments in poplar plantations in the lowland area. The aim of this paper is to determine maximum profit by engaging a harvester in the given conditions, as well as to determine the total costs of the asset. Harvester achieved a total of 18,392 machine hours (MH), with an average of 1,415 hours per year. The average fuel consumption during the entire period was 16.3 l/h, or 0.76 l/m(3). The highest cost of spare parts was in the 6(th) year (around 66,000 euros) and in the 12(th) year (around 82,000 euros). The total cost of spare parts and services was 656,878 euros. Based on the planning that the number of work days per year is 200, an amortization period of 7 years is obtained (the point of intersection of current and average profit growth). Results of this research indicate that harvesters older than 7 years should be replaced with new machines, due to high maintenance costs. However, these are only initial researches, which will be continued with data on several harvesters that have been procured in the meantime.

Ostvareno radno vrijeme pripada 75.44% efektivnom vremenu i 24.56% dodatnom vremenu. Faktor dodatnog vremena iznosi 1.33.
AB - This paper presents the results of research of the Timberjack 240b tractor equipped with a double-drum winch (work form 1 Tractor driver + 0 Assistant) in beech stand at an average elevation of 983.73 m. The research was conducted using the time and work study method, with the help of GIS technology in certain segments of research. The achieved working hours consist of 75.44% effective time and 24.56% delay time. The delay time coefficient is 1.33. In total, 47 transport cycles were realized, with 66 stopping points, an average of 1.41 per transport cycle. The average skidding distance was 221.19 m. In total, 363 logs (204.04 m3) were collected by 79 winches. The average load volume was 4.34 m3 and consisted of 5.43 pieces. Loaded tractor skidding time is strongly influenced by skidding distance and load volume in interaction with the longitudinal slope of skidding trails. To increase tractor productivity, it was concluded that the skidding roads should be built with the smallest longitudinal slope possible. Preferably, logs should be skidded downhill.

AB - The paper presents the working principle of the alcohol sensor, which is connected to the on/off switch on the chainsaw. The alcohol sensor switches off the chainsaw via the transmitter and receiver, if it detects that the worker is under the influence of alcohol. The connection between the transmitter and the receiver is remote, via radio waves. The alcohol sensor contains a mesh that heats up due to 5V voltage impact and reacts to alcohol vapors. This reaction is an incentive to send a signal from the transmitter to the receiver. Blockage - switching off of the chainsaw occurs when a short circuit is made between the power supply and ground. This short circuit also occurs when the chainsaw stop switch is manually switched to the "0" state. By using an alcohol sensor, a transmitter and a receiver, the "0" state on the switch is achieved wirelessly. The receiver (relay) makes a short circuit instead of a switch, which causes the chainsaw to stop working. This way of stopping the chainsaw indirectly protects the worker from injuries due to alcohol consumption.

AB - In most cases, the planning of funding for the construction of a forest truck road causes difficulty to planners. Although a forest management plan (FMP) indicates the number of roads to be built annually for the next development period with the average cost of construction, this information is quite general and based on experiential estimates. The aim of this paper is to determine the average cost of forest truck road construction in the Republic of Srpska, as well as to calculate the average costs of individual phases of operation. The obtained average cost of forest road construction, resulting from the analysis of 71 major projects in 11 forest areas encompassing 178 km of forest roads, is 32,490.87 €/km. The obtained results point to the interesting fact that forest road construction is the most expensive in hilly areas with an altitude ranging between 200 and 500 m (34,298.28 €/km), while it is the cheapest (30,922.88 €/km) in medium mountainous areas, with altitudes between 1000 and 2000 m.

I-214) i topola klon Pannonia (Populus×euramericana (Dode) Guinier cl. Pannonia).
AB - Poplars occupy about 31.4 million ha in the world, while in Serbia poplars spread over the area of 48.000 ha. The subject of this research are artificially raised poplar plantations, consisting of poplar clone I-214 (Populus×euramericana (Dode) Guinier cl. I-214) and poplar clone Pannonia (Populus×euramericana (Dode) Guinier cl. Pannonia). Field activities of collecting data required for this research were conducted in two phases. The first phase of data collection included measurement of tree diameter. Also, the numbering, marking and recording of poplar rows, as well as each poplar in the row, was conducted. The second phase of data collection was conducted after the felling of trees that were selected for detailed measurement of the elements required for theoretical cross cutting. In accordance with the general principles of cross cutting, as well as the principles of maximum financial effect, the qualitative partition of trunks into several variants was performed. The classification of wood assortments was performed on the basis of SRPS wood standards. The share of technical wood for veneer (F and L class) in the analyzed poplar trees clone I-214 is 47.54% of the total volume of wood assortments. When it comes to the clone Pannonia, logs for cutting (quality class II), have the greatest share in total volume of wood assortments with 44.08. There is no statistically significant difference between the total volume and the value of the assortments of the two analyzed poplar clones, except when it comes to assortments for chemical exploitation where statistical differences exist.

AB - The paper deals with the possibility od using Laser Technology TruPulse 360B Laser Rangefinder in designing forest roads. The laser distance meter was used to measure horizontal distances, izimuths, and longitudinal slopes. The ovtained values werw compared with the values obtained in the measurements with the Suunto Tandem clinometer compass and the measuring tape. The analysis of the results revealed minor deviations in the measurement of the hotizontal distance and longitudinal slope and significant deviations in the measurement of the azimuths, which affected the position of the forest road.

AB - This paper presents the possibilities of using medicinal plants in the territory of the "Kuršumlija" Forest Administration. The research was carried out within the "Sagonjevska Crna Čuka" Management Unit, with an area of 2578,67 ha, where 20 sample plots were established (5 in each compartment). These sample plot circles were arranged into a network through compartments 42, 43, 44 and 46 at a distance of 100 m, in the North-south, East-West direc-tions. The radius of each circle is 1.80 m, with an area of 10 m². The environmental conditions were determined in each of the marked sample plots. The medicinal plants were identified and their number was determined, while the cover and association of medicinal plants were also calculated. After that, samples of different medicinal plants were taken for measurement, both fresh and dry, to determine the potential of the biomass of medicinal herbs in the investigated area. The research results showed that the total estimated amount of medicinal herbs biomass in the investigated area was 186.67 kg per hectare. The estimated amount of dried medicinal plants has a significant potential and should be thoroughly examined and used in the future.

The estimated amount of dried medicinal plants has a significant potential and should be thoroughly examined and used in the future.",

AB - Stump removal is a regular measure of terrain preparation during the establishment of poplar plantations. It is implemented in order to increase the efficiency of implementation of regular silvicultural measures, but also the efficiency of comprehensive wood mass utilization. Stump removal in poplar plantations is performed by various facilities, including various types of wood chippers attached to a tractor of certain technical characteristics. The aim of this paper is the evaluation of efficiency of the tractor “Same Laser 150” with the wood chipper “Rotor S” attached to it, during the stump chipping of soft and hard broadleaves in various operating conditions. The research was carried out in several sample plots located in an area managed by the public enterprise “Vojvodina šume”. The differentiation of the operating conditions was based on multiple criteria (distance between stumps, level of forest order establishment, carrying capacity of the ground, percentage share of tree species, etc.). The work effects of stump chipping were established using the work and time study. The duration of stump chipping ranged from 0,82 min/stump to 2,29 min/stump and it depended on stump diameter, root system development, diameter of the auger used for stump chipping, tractor power, etc. In addition to being dependent on some other things, chipping time depends on the number of passes and auger diameter. The time of transition from stump to stump is under the highest impact of ground conditions, which implies the amount of wood residue, the presence of stump shoots, and the occurrence of high weeds. The implemented analysis served as the basis for the ranking of the factors depending on their impact on the work effects of the investigated facility. In addition, it was concluded that greater effects can be achieved by using the command that provides a forward and backward movement of the aggregate without pushing the clutch pedal and pulling the gearshift lever, but also by installing a handle for the change of rpm (revolutions per minute) of the output shaft in the driver’s cabin. This handle is currently located on a differential housing next to the left wheel, so the driver has to leave the cabin to change the rpm of the output shaft. Another problem is that the tractor “Same Laser 150” has double commands installed in the cabin: the clutch, brake and gas pedal, but when the seat makes a 180 degree turn those pedals are not at the adequate height. In addition to that, the operator does not have enough space for work in the tractor cabin. An increased cabin space and a better position of the above mentioned commands would enhance work efficiency.

AB - The focus of this paper is on the description of the openness of primary forest traffic infrastructure in the Republic of Srpska. The data were collected using Garmin Oregon 600 GPS devices across the entire territory of state forests, managed by the Public Enterprise, Sume Republike Srpske", and the recorded traces were compared and corrected by orthophoto snapshots with a 0.50 m resolution. The tools used for the processing of collected data were software ESRI ArcGIS 10.2 and Quantum GIS 16.2. In addition, the analysis covers all forest roads that pass through state forests that can be used for forest management and enable the movement of trucks. Public roads are only taken as an overview of openness of this category of roads and forest openness is shown by forest categories. The analyses included 843,466.00 ha out of the total of 1,002,056.00 ha of state-owned forests. The final aim of this analysis was to obtain a clear insight into the quantitative status of primary forest traffic infrastructure in the Republic of Srpska. The data were collected during 2016. Based on the analysis, the total density of the network of primary forest traffic infrastructure for the research area was 9.28 m/ha without public roads, i.e. 11.21 m/ha with public roads. In addition, density of the network of primary forest traffic infrastructure was determined separately for each category of forests, and the highest density of forest road network was found in forest plantations (11.57 m/ha or 14.82 m/ha with public roads) and high forests with natural regeneration (11.13 m/ha or 12.49 m/ha with public roads).

AB - Covering almost the entire territory of Serbia, hunting grounds occupy a unique role not only in the country’s hunting practices but also in game management and wildlife conservation. Therefore, it is useful to be acquainted with their characteristics in order to manage game in a sustainable manner. Nevertheless, there has not been a proper study on the condition of hunting grounds in Serbia since the country’s transition process, which reshaped the hunting sector as a whole. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the features of hunting grounds in Serbia in order to establish a base for future scientific research and appropriate decision making. The research results were obtained on the basis of the data on 272 hunting grounds in Serbia, collated during the hunting year of 2012/2013 and compared with the last comprehensive hunting analysis at the national level in 2001. The analysis suggests that the regal hunting system is still predominant in Serbia. The quality of hunting grounds has been enhanced to a certain extent, although there are yet some challenges which pose a threat to sustainable management such as the oversized hunting areas, lack of employees and poor financial condition.

AB - The exposure of a tractor operator to noise does not depend solely on the noise produced by the machine, but also on the working conditions, which are constantly changing in forestry. This research was conducted with an adapted IMT 565 DV agricultural tractor in a mixed stand of beech and fir in southwestern Serbia. The results show that the structure of working time changes with increased skidding distance. When the skidding distance is increased from 150 m to 450 m, the share of empty and loaded travel grows from 38% to 50%, resulting in higher noise exposure of a tractor operator. In addition, it was estimated that an increase in the skidding distance from 50 m to 1000 m results in a noise exposure increase of 2 dB(A). The contribution of the operations of empty and loaded travel and landing work to the total noise level exceeds 90% at 450 meters long skidding distances. However, when assessing worker exposure to noise, it is possible to disregard the major impact factors and inadequately plan the study, which can result in an underestimation or overestimation of exposure to noise. Finally, the results of this study are important for a) a broader understanding of the relationship between the level of noise and exposure time and b) proper planning and performance of measurements characterized by essential and active involvement of forestry professionals.

AB - This paper presents a multi-criteria selection of the best forest road network with the aim of achieving effective preventive and timely repressive protection against forest fires. The research was carried out in national park (NP) "Tara" at a site which is under constant threat of fire. Four variants of the forest road network were designed and analyzed against seven criteria, and the best variant was selected using entropy weight coefficients (EWC) method. The importance of these seven criteria was studied by the management of the NP "Tara." The greatest importance was given to the criteria relating to the cost of construction and maintenance of permanent and temporary roads (47% of the total value of all criteria). The EWC method did not select the variant based on the lowest costs of construction and maintenance as the best option, but the variant whose location was the most suitable for effective defense against forest fires.

AB - In most developed countries forestry is among the occupations with the highest rate of occupational injuries. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and main causes of occupational injuries in Serbian forestry. The data were collected in the area managed by the Forest estate (FE) ''Sremska Mitrovica" for the period from 151 January 2008 to 31St December 2012. The analyses involved workers engaged in different forest work operations (logger, manual loader, silvicultural worker and driver). The data analysis showed that light injuries account for 95% of all occupational injuries, while severe occupational injuries account for 5% of them. In the analyzed period there were no fatal injuries. The percentage of injuries in the total number of workers is 12%. The most commonly injured workers were loggers (68%). According to the analysis, every fourth logger was injured, and the largest number of them were injured once (99 workers). Twenty-six of them were injured twice during the same period and 9 three or more times. The average logger age was 38.8, and their average length of service was 16 years. The largest number of logger injuries occurred in March and May, on Mondays (almost 1/3 of injuries) in the period from 10 to 11 AM, and the most frequently injured body parts were the legs (38%) and arms (35%). The most common cause of injury is the blow of a branch (35%).

AB - This paper presents the results of research of efficacy of the lightweight
low power chainsaw Stihl MS 260 in the operations of juvenile thinning in
preserved even-aged mixed stands of pedunculate oak with hornbeam, ash and
other hard hardwoods. The investigations were carried out in the territory of
FE “Sremska Mitrovica” in three sample plots of different ages. It is the
first research of this kind based on the choice of optimal technological
solution for the cleaning cuts of oak stands. Technology of work is based on
cutting unwanted species at a certain height in order to favor pedunculate
oak as the main species. In sample plot 1 the cutting through of undesirable
species was carried out in one place and then third parties carried out their
processing and transportation. In sample plots 2 and 3 workers cut the
unwanted species in several places and stacked the timber on the ground so as
not to interfere with the growth of pedunculate oak which does not tolerate
shading. In this study, we applied time and work study. Group system of work
was recorded. The group typically consisted of 4 workers and a foreman. Fuel
consumption was recorded by the method of tank refuelling. The research
results show that operating conditions have a significant impact on the
effects of work with a chainsaw, as well as on the consumption of fuel and
lubricants. The differences are mainly caused by different structures of cut
   timber.

AB - The effects of roads and railways on major species of large game (roe deer and wild boar) have been studied in eight hunting grounds in the Belgrade area (nine municipalities), as well as the consequences of chemical accidents in transport of hazardous materials. Road accidents involving birds, game and other animals (WVC - wildlife vehicle collisions) during 2009-2013 in the Belgrade area result in 10 cases (4.8%) in injuries for drivers and passengers. In total, 267 roe deer and 8 wild boar were killed in traffic by cars and trains. Traffic accidents with roe deer have their maximum in April-May and then in December. The adult sex ratio in roe deer killed in traffic by cars and trains was 2.1 (173 female and 80 male), indicating that females were more vulnerable than males. The yearly traffic kill of roe deer represented between 0.8% and 1.1% of the spring population size. In the Belgrade area, the mobile eco-toxicological laboratory of the City Institute of Public Health Belgrade during 2004-2012 registered 177 chemical accidents (mean = 19.7, range = 13 to 26). The chemical accidents in transport of hazardous materials were sporadic and their consequences were small-scale contamination of the environment and economic losses. At the main transport routes of hazardous materials passing through hunting grounds in the Belgrade area occurred 26 chemical accidents, out of which 11 on the railways and 9 on the roads, and the remainder in air and river transportation (4 and 2, respectively).

AB - This paper presents an analysis of damage to residual trees and the regeneration that occurs during harvesting using the half tree length method and timber extraction in winter operating conditions in a pure beech stand and a mixed stand of beech fir and spruce in the territory of the Srpska Republic. In this study, types of damage were investigated, as well as the size of wounds. Felling and processing of wood assortments were performed with a chainsaw and timber extraction on earth and by skid trail to a roadside landing on a truck road was performed with a tractor Timberjack 240C. The number of injuries that occurred during the felling and transport of trees in the mixed stand was on average 2.69 wounds per felled tree, whereas in the pure stand the average number of wounds per felled tree was 2.27. During the felling of trees in both sample plots, the largest number of injuries was to the crowns of neighbouring trees, which was followed by damage to the butt end, whereas the lowest number of injuries was incurred to the root collar. During the timber winching, the most common damage was to the root collar, whereas during timber skidding the most common type of damage was to the butt end. Damage to the regeneration was evident in both sample plots in the form of breakages of plants and their branches, as well as uprooting of whole plants. Damage to the butt end and root collar that occurred at the felling stage was in the form of bark peeling and other superficial wounds whose most common sizes were larger than 200 cm(2). The average area of injuries caused during the transport phase ranged from 50 to 200 cm(2).

Organizaciona forma rada 1T+1P (traktorista i pomoćnik).
AB - The first phase of transport of forest products (skidding) in Serbia is usually performed by skid trails with adapted agricultural tractors. The educational base 'Goč - Gvozdac' compartment 21 was the selected object of this research. Data recording was carried out in June 2011. The vehicle driven by the driver was an IMT 565 DV tractor. The organizational form of work was 1T + 1P (tractor driver and assistant). The microphone of a Bruel & Kjaer 4189 noise measuring instrument was mounted on the helmet of the tractor driver in accordance with the ISO 9612: 2012 standard. The recording was performed with a Bruel & Kjaer 2250 instrument. The values of the following parameters with appropriate filters: LAeq (dB(A)), LAIeq ( dB(A)), L Cpeak (dB(C)), LZeq ( dB) w ere m easured. T he measured exposure of the workers to noise was the highest in the course of the main productive time (empty or full drive). It was found that the eight-hour exposure to noise of the driver (88 dB (A)) exceeds the limit value of daily exposure according to European legislation. The results show that it is necessary for drivers to use hearing protection equipment when transporting wood with the studied transportation vehicle.

Rezultati pokazuju da je obavezna upotreba sredstava za zaštitu sluha pri transportu drveta proučavanim transportnim sredstvom., The first phase of transport of forest products (skidding) in Serbia is usually performed by skid trails with adapted agricultural tractors. The results show that it is necessary for drivers to use hearing protection equipment when transporting wood with the studied transportation vehicle.",

AB - This paper presents the issue of the use of forest and hunting resources in
Serbia, with special emphasis on their sustainability. The use of modern
technological solutions in terms of sustainable use of forest and hunting
resources should be seen through an analysis and evaluation of environmental
impacts. The existing machinery used in Serbian forestry cannot respond to
the current demands of forestry production. However, the current unfavourable
conditions can be significantly improved with appropriate measures. The
planning of a network of roads including a number of factors that directly
and indirectly affect sustainable use is of great importance for the
development of forestry and hunting. Wood biomass in Serbian forests should
be used in the manner and to the extent that ensures the sustainability of
ecosystems and the production of large quantities of energy. In recent years,
non-timber forest products have gained importance, so that the income
generated from their use is growing. The impact of newly adopted laws and
bylaws in the field of forestry, hunting and the protection of nature and
environment will depend primarily on their application, control, execution
   and possible amendments and adjustments.
