Forest fires in Finland – the influence of atmospheric oscillations

AB  - In Finland, in the period 1996–2017, 28,434 forest fires were recorded (an average of 1,292.5 per year), and the total burned area was 11,922 ha (an average of 541.9 ha per year). In both cases, a statistically non-significant downward trend was recorded. Forest fires in Finland do not represent a particularly significant problem, primarily due to climatic characteristics, well-organized fire protection, and low density of population. The research of climate influence included the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO), the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), and the Arctic Oscillation (AO). The statistically significant values (p ≤ .05) of Pearson correlation coefficient were recorded for the August values of NAO and the surface area of burned forest (−0.44), the June values of NAO and the average surface area of forest burned per fire (−0.51) and the May AO values and the average surface area of forest burned per fire (−0.45). For the June values of NAO and the average surface area of forest burned per fire, the Lomb periodogram shows four significant peaks, and the match is at two, at 2.4 and 3.4 years, which supports the hypothesis of the connection between NAO and forest fires in Finland.

AB  - The paper presents the results of a study on the regime of light and regeneration in a pure sessile oak stand in 'Fruska Gora' National Park in Serbia. Pure sessile oak stands cover 3960.73 ha or 17.6% of the area. The study stand is ecologically classified as the forest of sessile oak with fescue (Festuco drymeiae - Quercetum petraeae Jank. 1974) on acid brown and illimerised soil over sandstone. The 96 year-old stand is even-aged and vegetative. It is located on east and west facing slopes at an altitude of 450 m, with the slope inclination of 32 degrees. The starting hypothesis of this paper was that light regime has significant effects on the success of sessile oak forest regeneration. Data collection was performed in early July 2008. The study of regeneration elements (seedling number, height and quality) was conducted at the end of the growing season at the seedling age of 3. Light conditions that arc most favorable for regeneration include the intensity of illuminance between 5000 Lx and 10000 Lx, i.e, 1 1,3% to 22.6% of full daylight. The number of seedlings and their spatial distribution on the regeneration plot are in these specific site and stand conditions affected by the light regime of the area, making light most decisive, but not the only factor affecting their spatial distribution.

AB  - Rezultati su pokazali da uništavanje izdanaka tekome iz korena mehaničkim sredstvima ne daje rezultate. Folijarno tretiranje 2%-nim rastvorom preparata Touch-down 4-LC je delimično efikasno. Pravilna, redovna i pravovremena nega zelenih površina omogućava dugoročnu funkcionalnost zelenila. Angažovanje kvalifikovanih lica pri planiranju, podizanju i održavanju zelenila može umanjiti ili anulirati mnoge probleme koje nestručni rad prouzrokuje.
AB  - An important ornamental climber in the conditions of small spaces and low intensity of maintenance becomes a weed in urban gardens. On Belgrade territory, several locations were found where the species Tecoma radicans A. L. Juss. developed to the degree that it violated some elements of town gardens or structures and even roads. When a plant species loses its main role, in this case ornamental, and when it is transformed into a weed, it is necessary to suppress it, in the specific cases by removal.

AB  - Bagremac (Amorpha fruticosa L) je najznačajnija korovska vrsta u zasadima topola na lokalitetu Palanačke Ade (Čipski Poloj). Pored bagremca, prisutne su i druge drvenaste vrste: Vitis vinifera Gmel., Cornus sanguinea L.,Acer negundo L.,Robinia pseudoacacia L.,Ailanthus glandulosa Desf. i Rubus sp. U suzbijanju bagremca korišćeni su vodeni rastvori herbicida Roundup (glifosat) i Touch-down 4LC (sulfosat), u koncentracijama 0.5,1,2 i 5%. Tretiranja su vršena krajem juna 2000. i 2001. godine. Oba herbicida efikasno su delovali na bagremac u koncentraciji 1%. Ostale drvenaste vrste ispoljile su veću otpornost na herbicide od bagremca.
AB  - False indigo (Amorpha fruticosa L) is the most important weed species in poplar plantings in the locality of Palanačke Ade (Čipski Poloj). Apart from the false indigo, there are other woody species: Vitis vinifera Gmel, Cornus sanguinea L., Acer negundo L, Robinia pseudoacacia L., Ailanthus glandulosa Desf. and Rubus sp. Herbicides Roundup (glyphosate) and Touch-down 4LC (sulphosate) there were used in the concentration of 0.5,1,2 and 5% in false indigo control. The treatments were carried out at the end of June 2000/2001. Both herbicides were efficient in false indigo control in the concentration of 1%. Other species proved to be more resistant to these herbicides.

AB  - Značajna dekorativna puzavica u uslovima malih prostora i niskog intenziteta nege postaje korov u vrtovima i baštama urbanih prostora. Na teritoriji grada Beograda konstatovano je više lokacija na kojima se vrsta Tecoma radicans A. L. Juss. razvila u toj meri da narušava pojedine elemente vrtova ili objekte pa čak i saobraćajnice. Kada biljna vrsta gubi svoju osnovnu ulogu, u ovom slučaju dekorativnu, postaje korov, nastaje potreba za njenom kontrolom u specifičnim slučajevima uklanjanjem. Na analiziranim lokalitetima tekoma je suzbijana mehaničkim i hemijskim sredstvima. Folijarno tretiranje 2%-nim rastvorom preparata Touch-down 4-LC pokazalo se delimično efikasnim. Kao efikasna metoda suzbijanja korenovih izdanaka pokazalo se premazivanje površine preseka (panja) 20%-nim rastvorom pomenutog preparata. Uništavanje korenovih reznica koje su udaljene od mesta primene herbicida (na panju) kod ove vrste je omogućeno specifičnim provodnim elementima, trahejama obrazovanim u proleće, izrazito širokih lumena i izraženih spiralnih zadebljanja na unutrašnjim zidovima. Kako je uloga spiralnih zadebljanja traheja povećanje brzine protoka vode, to je ova vrsta pogodna za tretiranje hemijskim sredstvima u cilju njenog suzbijanja. Pravilna, redovna i pravovremena nega zelenih površina kao i angažovanje stručnjaka umanjuje ili anulira probleme koje amaterski, nestručni rad prouzrokuje.
