The City of Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and one of the largest Southeast European cities. During the twentieth century, it endured many changes in its urban structure and experienced a significant population increase. Because of the Yugoslavian war crisis, the state suffered international isolation that resulted in the economic, social, and cultural decline of Belgrade. After 2000, the transition process began, which is still going on even today. Serbia is on its way to full EU membership but is not likely to enter the EU until after 2025. Considering the hard start to the twenty-first century and the challenges of the contemporary period, this chapter reveals current urban development and presents the ambitions and long-term visions for Belgrade.en
