AB  - U cilju procene genetskog potencijala izvora reproduktivnog materijala sprovedena su istraživanja varijabilnosti 10 grupa semenskih stabala hrasta lužnjaka na nivou morfometrijskih svojstava semena i jednogodišnjih sadnica. Seme je sakupljeno u jesen 2017. godine u semenskoj sastojini RS-2-2-qro-11-828, čija je osnovna namena proizvodnja kvalitetnog semena za potrebe veštačkog obnavljanja šuma. Na čitavoj površini sastojine izdvojeno je deset grupa sa po pet materinskih stabala sa kojih je sakupljeno seme. Na uzorku od 50 žireva po grupi izmereni su dužina, širina i masa žira. Na osnovu izmerenih vrednosti izračunati su indeks oblika (odnos dužine i širine) i zapremina žira (prema formuli za računanje zapremine valjka). U rasadniku Instituta za šumarstvo u proleće 2018. godine osnovan je rasadnički test i u starosti sadnica 1+0 izvršena su merenja prečnika u korenovom vratu i visine sadnica. Prosečne vrednosti za posmatrana svojstva semena i sadnica dobijene u istraživanjima, ukazuju na visoku unutarpopulacionu varijabilnost. Rezultati analizom varijanse pokazuju statistički značajne razlike između uzorkovanih grupa materinskih stabala za sva posmatrana svojstva, osim za dužinu žira. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata, istraživana semenska sastojina se može oceniti kao visoko kvalitetna za proizvodnju reproduktivnog materijala. Dobijene rezultate treba prihvatiti kao preliminarne. Oni predstavljaju dobru polaznu osnovu za utvrđivanje genetske raznolikosti, a sve u cilju proizvodnje kvalitetnog repromaterijala hrasta lužnjaka.
AB  - To assess the genetic potential of the reproductive material source, we studied the variability of 10 pedunculate oak groups at the level of morphometric characteristics of seed and one-year-old seedlings. In autumn 2017, acorns were collected from the seed stand RS-2-2-qro-11-828, whose primary purpose is the production of quality seed for artificial forest regeneration. Over the entire stand area, ten groups of five mother trees were selected for seed collection. A sample of 50 acorns per group was used to measure the length, width, and mass of the acorn. The obtained values were used to calculate the shape index (length to width ratio) and volume (using the formula for the cylinder volume calculation) of the acorn. Nursery testing was initiated in the nursery of the Institute of Forestry in spring 2018 and the height and root collar diameter of 1+0 seedlings were measured. The average values obtained for the observed acorns and seedlings in the study indicated high intra-population variability. The results of the analysis of variance showed statistically significant differences between the sampled mother tree groups for all observed properties except for the acorn length. Based on the obtained results, the study seed stand can be evaluated as a high-quality stand for the production of reproductive material. The obtained results are only preliminary. However, they are a good starting point for the determination of diversity, all with the purpose of producing good quality oak reproductive material.

AB  - Parazitna gljiva Fomes fomentarius jedna je od najčešćih i najznačajnijih gljiva u lišćarskim šumama u Srbiji. Posebno je česta na stablima bukve gde se razvija kao parazit na dubećim, živim stablima, a nastavlja takođe, destrukciju i na oborenom drvetu i trupcima, ali samo dok su u šumi i ukoliko u njima ima dovoljno vlage. Karpofore su, takođe, veoma često prisutne i na panjevima. Osim na većem broju lišćarskih vrsta drveća, u toku ovih istraživanja zabeležena je i na jeli, što je prvi nalaz u Srbiji na ovom domaćinu. Fomes fomentarius prouzrokuje belu pegavu trulež. U ovom radu osim prikaza osnovnih bioekoloških karakteristika gljive, ukazano je i na neka njena lekovita svojstva i mogućnost primene u medicini.
AB  - The parasitic fungus Fomes fomentarius is one of the most common and significant fungi in deciduous forests in Serbia. It is especially common in beech trees where it develops as a parasite on stunted, living trees, and also continues destruction on fallen trees and logs, but only while in the forest and if there is sufficient moisture in them. Carpophores are also very common in stumps. In addition to a large number of deciduous tree species, it was also recorded on fir during these studies, which is the first finding in Serbia of this host. Fomes fomentarius causes white spot rot. In addition to presenting the basic bioecological characteristics of a fungus, this paper also highlights some of its medicinal properties and its potential for use in medicine.

AB  - In this paper, we start with the assumption that employee innovativeness cannot be observed without the in-fluence of an intrapreneurial climate. We test this relationship and its effects in public forest enterprises (PFEs). The theoretical framework is based on the intrapreneurship concept. A model for testing the influence of an intrapreneurial climate on employee innovativeness was designed. The model consists of two constructs: the intrapreneurial climate and employee innovativeness. The first construct consists of the following 8 dimensions: work autonomy, professional training, business environment, managerial support, entrepreneurial attitudes and motives, reward system, working time availability and flow of information. Employee innovativeness was de-fined as the willingness and propensity of employees to recognize innovative ideas for products and services or processes or a new organizational method in the business practices of an enterprise. The instrument for mea-suring the intrapreneurial climate and employee innovativeness is called the Forestry Intrapreneurship Innovativeness Instrument (FIII). Data were collected through a survey questionnaire with 137 employees of 4 PFEs in Serbia. The FIII was tested for reliability, and good overall reliability was determined (alpha = 0.88). Correlation and multiple regression analyses were employed. Employee innovativeness is positively influenced by entrepreneurial attitudes and motives and the business environment, among all of the other intrapreneurial climate dimensions. The intrapreneurial climate is characterized by a positive correlation among managerial support, the reward system and the work autonomy of employees. Managers in PFEs could use this finding to create and foster an organizational climate that is able to stimulate the transition of an idea into goods or services.

AB  - U radu su analizirani morfološki parametri kvaliteta jednogodišnjih sadnica hrasta kitnjaka (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl) i njihovi međusobni odnosi. Na osnovu obavljenih analiza utvrđeno je koji od merenih morfoloških parametara, uz minimalno trošenje vremena i sredstava daje najtačniju procenu kvaliteta jednogodišnjih sadnica. Za sprovedena istraživanja sadnice su proizvedene u rasadniku Instituta za šumarstvo u Beogradu, u ujednačenim uslovima sredine od semena sakupljenog u semenskoj sastojini RS-2-2-qpe-22-169. Sadnice su proizvedene u istoj leji, a uzorak za analize je uzet tako što je leja podeljena na četiri dela i iz svakog dela je metodom slučajnog uzorka uzeto po 30 sadnica. Mereni su sledeći morfološki parametri: prečnik u korenovom vratu, visina sadnica, masa nadzemnog i podzemnog dela sadnica u apsolutno suvom stanju i zapremina korena. Na osnovu izmerenih vrednosti izračunati su odnosi visina:prečnik u korenovom vratu, masa nadzemnog:masa podzemnog dela sadnice i indeks kvaliteta. Visina sadnica i prečnik u korenovom vratu su dobri pokazatelji kvaliteta, što je potvrđeno pozitivnim korelativnim vezama sa ostalim merenim morfološkim parametrima. Jača zavisnost je utvrđena kod prečnika u korenovom vratu, naročito sa indeksom kvaliteta, pa se on može preporučiti kao dobar pokazatelj kvaliteta jednogodišnjih sadnica kitnjaka. Indeks kvaliteta se potvrdio kao najobuhvatniji morfološki pokazatelj kvaliteta sadnica.
AB  - The paper analyzes the morphological quality parameters of one-year-old sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl) seedlings and their interrelations. Based on the performed analyzes, it was determined which of the measured morphological parameters, with minimal time and resources spent, gives the most accurate estimate of the quality of one-year old seedlings. For the conducted research, seedlings were produced in the nursery of the Institute of Forestry in Belgrade, in uniform environmental conditions from seed collected in seed stand RS-2-2-qpe-22-169. The seedlings were produced in the same nursery seedbed, and the sample for analysis was taken by dividing the seedbed into four sections and taking 30 seedlings from each section by random sampling. The following morphological parameters were measured: root collar diameter, height of seedlings, weight of above and underground part of seedling in absolutely dry condition and root volume. Based on the measured values, height ratios were calculated as follows: height:root collar diameter, weight of aboveground part of seedling: weight of underground part of seedling, and quality index. The height of the seedlings and root collar diameter are good indicators of quality, which is confirmed by the positive correlative relationships with other measured morphological parameters. A stronger dependence has been found in the root collar diameter, especially with the quality index, so it can be recommended as a good indicator of the quality of the one-year old sessile oak seedlings. The quality index has been confirmed as the most comprehensive morphological indicator of the seedling quality.

abstract = "U radu su analizirani morfološki parametri kvaliteta jednogodišnjih sadnica hrasta kitnjaka (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl) i njihovi međusobni odnosi. Na osnovu obavljenih analiza utvrđeno je koji od merenih morfoloških parametara, uz minimalno trošenje vremena i sredstava daje najtačniju procenu kvaliteta jednogodišnjih sadnica. Za sprovedena istraživanja sadnice su proizvedene u rasadniku Instituta za šumarstvo u Beogradu, u ujednačenim uslovima sredine od semena sakupljenog u semenskoj sastojini RS-2-2-qpe-22-169. Sadnice su proizvedene u istoj leji, a uzorak za analize je uzet tako što je leja podeljena na četiri dela i iz svakog dela je metodom slučajnog uzorka uzeto po 30 sadnica. Mereni su sledeći morfološki parametri: prečnik u korenovom vratu, visina sadnica, masa nadzemnog i podzemnog dela sadnica u apsolutno suvom stanju i zapremina korena. Na osnovu izmerenih vrednosti izračunati su odnosi visina:prečnik u korenovom vratu, masa nadzemnog:masa podzemnog dela sadnice i indeks kvaliteta. Visina sadnica i prečnik u korenovom vratu su dobri pokazatelji kvaliteta, što je potvrđeno pozitivnim korelativnim vezama sa ostalim merenim morfološkim parametrima. Jača zavisnost je utvrđena kod prečnika u korenovom vratu, naročito sa indeksom kvaliteta, pa se on može preporučiti kao dobar pokazatelj kvaliteta jednogodišnjih sadnica kitnjaka. Indeks kvaliteta se potvrdio kao najobuhvatniji morfološki pokazatelj kvaliteta sadnica., The paper analyzes the morphological quality parameters of one-year-old sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl) seedlings and their interrelations. Based on the performed analyzes, it was determined which of the measured morphological parameters, with minimal time and resources spent, gives the most accurate estimate of the quality of one-year old seedlings. For the conducted research, seedlings were produced in the nursery of the Institute of Forestry in Belgrade, in uniform environmental conditions from seed collected in seed stand RS-2-2-qpe-22-169. The seedlings were produced in the same nursery seedbed, and the sample for analysis was taken by dividing the seedbed into four sections and taking 30 seedlings from each section by random sampling. The following morphological parameters were measured: root collar diameter, height of seedlings, weight of above and underground part of seedling in absolutely dry condition and root volume. Based on the measured values, height ratios were calculated as follows: height:root collar diameter, weight of aboveground part of seedling: weight of underground part of seedling, and quality index. The height of the seedlings and root collar diameter are good indicators of quality, which is confirmed by the positive correlative relationships with other measured morphological parameters. A stronger dependence has been found in the root collar diameter, especially with the quality index, so it can be recommended as a good indicator of the quality of the one-year old sessile oak seedlings. The quality index has been confirmed as the most comprehensive morphological indicator of the seedling quality.",

Characterisation and pathogenicity of Cryphonectria parasitica on sweet chestnut and sessile oak trees in Serbia

AB  - The presence of Cryphonectria parasitica (Murrill) M.E. Barr was studied in six natural and planted stands of sweet chestnut in Serbia. The fungus was detected on the sweet chestnut in five localities and on the sessile oak in one locality. In total, 77 isolates from the sweet chestnut and five isolates from the sessile oak were obtained. Based on the culture morphology, all the obtained isolates were proven to be free from Cryphonectria (Saccardo) Saccardo & D. Saccardo hypovirus. The isolates of C. parasitica from the sweet chestnut were compatible with three different vegetative compatibility types, EU-12, EU-2, and EU-1, while the isolates from the sessile oak belonged to EU-12. After inoculation in laboratory conditions, the isolate from the sweet chestnut and sessile oak caused the decline in 88 and 76% of the sweet chestnut plants, respectively. In the case of the sessile oak, both isolates caused the decline in 52% of the plants. In field conditions, both isolates were aggressive to sessile oak trees after previous bark wounds and they were statistically significantly different compared to the control trees. The isolate from the sweet chestnut caused significantly larger cankers compared to both the isolate from the sessile oak and the control.

AB  - Comparison of twelve conifer species (Abies alba, A. concolor, A. nordmanniana, A. pinsapo, Cedrus atlantica, C. deodara, Picea abies, P. omorika, P. pungens, Pseudotsuga menziesii, Taxus baccata, and Pinus nigra) in the sense of needle morpho-anatomy and pollen morpho-physiology, in correlation to air pollution, was performed for the first time. Analyzed properties of species were also compared with literature sources. Listed conifers were investigated in five Belgrade parks, characterised by different degrees of air pollution, especially CO2. Their rank, I-V, was performed from non-polluted to heavily-polluted parks Ranking in the sense of needle morpho-anatomy and pollen morpho-physiology did not match expected ones, but park V remained the worst for many analyzed species. Trees with shorter needles had greater stomatal density, which was particularly prominent in A. alba, A. nordmanniana, P. abies, P. omorika, P. nigra and T. baccata. The pollen grains of C. atlantica and T. baccata were the most sensitive to air pollution. In some analyzed species distance of particular trees close to the heavy traffic also was in correlation with needle dimensions (P. omorika, A. concolor, A. nordmanniana, P. nigra), stomatal density (A. alba, P. abies, P. omorika, P. pungens) and pollen vitality (A. pinsapo, C. atlantica, P. menziessi, P. nigra, and T. baccata).

Uticaj orografskih faktora na rasprostranjenje šumske vegetacije na Kosmaju

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati istraživanja uticaja orografskih faktora (nadmorske visine, ekspozicije i nagiba terena) na pojavu i rasprostranjenje šumske vegetacije na području predela izuzetnih odlika "Kosmaj". Istraživane sastojine hrastova i bukve klasifikovane su prema njihovoj fitocenološkoj pripadnosti. Ukupno je analizirano 76 sastojina. Primenjen je modifikovani metod Lujića (1960) određivanja potencijala lokalne toplote i lokalni toplotni faktor, koji predstavljaju potencijalnu mogućnost zagrevanja zemljišta bez vegetacije. Analizom je utvrđeno da sastojine sladuna i cera na istraživanom području imaju najširu ekološku amplitudu i javljaju se na staništima sa kombinacijom toplotnih koordinata E.V od 5.15 do 8.15, što znači da najveću rasprostranjenost imaju u visinskom pojasu 401-500 m (53,5 %) i sa toplotnom koordinatom E = 8 (57,1%). Sastojine cera su podjednako zastupljene na terenima sa nadmorskom visinom 401-500 m i 501-600 m (50 %), a najviše ih je na staništima sa toplotnom koordinatom E = 8 (50 %). Sastojine kitnjaka i cera prisutne su na staništima sa sedam kombinacija toplotnih koordinata E.V, ali su najzastupljenije na terenima sa nadmorskom visinom 401-500 m (44,4%) i toplotnom koordinatom E = 6 (50,0 %). Čiste sastojine bukve najviše su rasprostranjene na staništima sa kombinacijama toplotnih koordinata E.V 5.14 i 5.13 sa po 25 %, a mešovite sa hrastom kitnjakom sa po 30%.
AB  - The paper presents the results of the study of effects of orographic factors (altitude, exposure and slope of the terrain) on the occurrence and distribution of forest vegetation in the area of the landscape of outstanding qualities`Kosmaj`. Phytosociological classification of the investigated stands of oak and beech was conducted. A total of 76 stands were analyzed. The modified Lujić method (1960) was used to determine the local heat potential and the local heat factor, which represent the potential possibility of heating the soil without vegetation. The study showed that the stands of Hungarian oak and Turkey oak in the investigated area have the widest ecological amplitude and occur on the sites with a combination of thermal coordinates E.V from 5.15 to 8.15, which means that they have the greatest range of distribution on the sites within the altitude zone of 401-500 m (53.5 %) and with the thermal coordinate E = 8 (57.1%). The stands of Turkey oak are equally distributed on the terrains with an altitude of 401-500 m and 501-600 m (50 %), and most of them are found on the sites with the thermal coordinate E=8 (50%). The stands of sessile oak and Turkey oak are present on the sites with seven combinations of thermal coordinates E.V, but they are most common on the terrains with an altitude of 401-500 m (44.4%) and the thermal coordinate E = 6 (50.0 %). Pure beech stands are most commonly present on the sites with the combinations of thermal coordinates E.V 5.14 and 5.13 where they participate with 25 %, while mixed with sessile oak participate with 30 %.

AB  - Vrste Trametes versicolor, Schizophyllum commune i Sparassis crispa izazivaju trulež drveta i većina istraživanja u šumarstvu odnosila su se na vrstu truleži koju izazivaju i na gubitke u drvnoj masi. T. versicolor i S. commune izazivaju belu trulež stabala i grana, najčešće lišćarskih vrsta, ali se ređe javljaju i na četinarima. Za razliku od njih, S. crispa izaziva mrku trulež korena i pridanka stabla četinarskih vrsta (naročito iz roda Pinus). Poslednjih nekoliko decenija, zahvaljujući otkriću imunomodulirajućih polisaharida, mnoge vrste gljiva koriste se kao sirovina za dobijanje antibiotika i drugih lekova. Tako i ove tri vrste gljiva imaju primenu u medicini i koriste se za izradu komercijalnih preparata.
AB  - Species of Trametes versicolor, Schizophyllum commune and Sparassis crispa cause wood decay and most of the research in forestry has referred to the type of decay they cause and the losses in the wood mass. T. versicolor and S. commune cause white rot of stems and branches mainly of broadleaved species, but occasionally of coniferous species, too. Unlike them, S. crispa causes the brown rot of roots and butt ends of coniferous tree species (especially Pinus species). In the last few decades, thanks to the discovery of immunomodulatory polysaccharides, numerous species of fungi are used as raw materials for the production of antibiotics and other drugs. Thus, these three species of fungi have found application in medicine and in the production of commercial preparations.

AB  - Duglazija je jedna od najčešće gajenih vrsta četinara u plantažama i šumskim kulturama u više zemalja Evrope. Model provenijeničnog testa zasniva se na analizama svojstava duglazije (rasta i anatomskih, fizioloških, hemijskih, mehaničkih, kao i drugih osobina) s ciljem provere opravdanosti transfera semena iz Severne Amerike u ekosisteme Srbije. Ovakav program se sprovodi u Srbiji na više lokacija sa duglazijom različitih provenijencija. Kako je analiza različitih fizioloških svojstava stabala od značaja pri introdukciji određenih provenijencija na staništa u Srbiji, u ovom radu su istraživane varijabilnosti sadržaja kalijuma u mladim četinama duglazije različitih provenijencija na eksperimentalnom polju u Srbiji. Značaj kalijuma u fiziološkim procesima biljaka je veoma veliki. Kalijum je esencijalni element koji učestvuje u nizu biohemijskih i fizioloških procesa i ima značajnu ulogu pri adaptaciji biljaka u uslovima biotičkog i abiotičkog stresa. Najveći sadržaj kalijuma utvrđen je kod provenijencije "Oregon 205-14", što je jedina provenijencija kod koje sadržaj kalijuma statistički značajno odstupa od proseka, te se ona može okarakterisati kao superiorna za usvajanje i akumulaciju ovog elementa. Konstatovano je da, u ovoj fazi, razlike u koncentraciji kalijuma kod stabala u provenijeničnom testu nemaju značajnog uticaja na parametre rasta. Dalja istraživanja treba da ukažu na to da li sadržaj ovog biogenog elementa ima uticaj na neka druga svojstva značajna za odabir provenijencija u procesu introdukcije, kao što je otpornost na stresne faktore.
AB  - Douglas-fir is one of the most common conifer species in the forest plantations of Europe. The provenance test model is based on the analysis of the properties (growth, anatomical, physiological, chemical, mechanical and other properties) of Douglas-fir in order to justify the transfer of seeds from North America to the ecosystems of Serbia. This type of program has been implemented in Serbia on several locations using different Douglas-fir provenances. Given that the analysis of different physiological properties of trees is important for the introduction of specified provenances into habitats in Serbia, in this paper the variability of potassium concentration in young Douglas-fir needles of different provenances was examined in an experimental field in Serbia. Potassium is very important in the physiological processes of plants. It is an essential element involved in a number of biochemical and physiological processes and plays a significant role in the adaptation of plants on biotic and abiotic stress factors. The highest potassium concentration was found in the "Oregon 205-14" provenance - the only provenance in which the potassium concentration was significantly higher than the average value, so it can be characterized as a superior provenance for the uptake and accumulation of this element. It was found that, at this stage of development, the differences in the potassium concentration in trees in the provenance test have no significant effect on growth parameters. Further studies should show whether the concentration of this biogenic element in any way affects other properties important for the selection of provenances during the introduction process, such as resistance to stress factors.

AB  - Protected area (PA) is a clearly defined geographical space, recognized, dedicated and managed through legal or other effective means to achieve the long-term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values. Organization of protected areas management represents a complex system of different actors that work with each other and different structures and procedures. Therefore, the organization of protected areas management is viewed from a systematic perspective that involves external and internal environments which need to be considered in the process of decision-making. The long-term sustainable management of PAs is defined through three objectives that include conservation, education and recreation, and strengthening of local communities. The organization of National park (NP) and Nature Park (NrP) management includes several functions from the executive management of PAs, through evaluation, protection and conservation of PAs, to technical maintenance of PAs. The main research objective was to study and define the organization of PA management within the defined groups of PA managers in Serbia and examine differences in the PA management in Serbia. The specific research questions to be answered were: (i) how PA management is organized in the field, (ii) what are the differences in the implementation of management documents and (iii) what are the differences in the cooperation with different stakeholders.

AB  - Introdukovane vrste drveća je potrebno morfološki, anatomski, ekološki i fiziološki testirati da bi se potvrdile njihove autohtone karakteristike i opravdao cilj introdukcije. Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga mensiesii Mirb/Franco) je vrsta sa vrlo širokim geografskim arealom i velikim rasponom nadmorske visine. Prirodni areal duglazije je od Novog Meksika do Kanade i od Pacifika do Stenovitih planina. Vrstu je potrebno testirati modelom provenijeničnog ogleda i odabrati adaptivne i perspektivne provenijencije za introdukciju u nove ekosisteme Srbije. Predmet istraživanja je sadržaj magnezijuma u četinama duglazije različitih provenijancija poreklom iz Kanade. Magnezijum je najvažniji mineral za sve žive organizme i utiče na mnoštvo biohemijskih procesa u biljkama. Istraživanja su obavljena sa četrnaest različitih provenijencija duglazije poreklim iz Kanade, na dva različita tipa zemljišta eutričnom kambisolu i vertisolu. Sva stabla ispitivanih provenijencija bile su iste starosti i uzgajane su pod istim uslovima na dve različite vrste zemljišta. Konstatovane količine magnezijuma u četinama ukazuju da postoje razlike u sposobnosti pojedinih provenijencija duglazije da usvaja ovaj element ishrane iz zemljišta.
AB  - The morphology, anatomy, ecology and physiology of introduced tree species should be tested in order to confirm their autochthonous characteristics and justify their introduction. Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga mensiesii Mirb/Franco) is a species with a very wide geographical range of distribution and an extensive altitudinal range. Its natural area of distribution stretches from New Mexico to Canada and from the Pacific to the Rocky Mountains. The species should be tested using the model of provenance tests in order to select the most adaptive and promising provenances to be introduced into new ecosystems of Serbia. This paper deals with the content of magnesium in the needles of Douglas-fir in different provenances originating from Canada. Magnesium is the most important mineral for all living organisms and affects a number of biochemical processes in plants.The research was carried out on fourteen different provenances of Douglas-fir originating from Canada on two different soil types - eutric cambisol and vertisol. All the trees of the study provenances were of the same age and grown under the same conditions on two different types of soil. The determined amounts of magnesium in the needles indicate that there are differences in the ability of certain provenances of Douglas-fir to absorb this element of nutrition from the soil.

Morphological Variability of Snowdrops in the Central Part of the Balkan Peninsula

AB  - To address the issues of taxonomic delimitation and to select the material with desirable traits for horticultural use, a comprehensive study of the total variability of morphological characters of two naturally occurring snowdrop species (Galanthus nivalis L. and Galanthus elwesii Hook.) in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula was conducted. The analyses were performed for 16 quantitative characters of aboveground parts of 630 plants collected at 21 geographical points in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. To identify the trends in morphological differentiation, descriptive, univariate and multivariate statistical procedures were employed. Most of the examined characters exhibited moderate degrees of variability (CV from 10% to 20%) and the values of several characters exceeded the limits of variation stated in literature. Samples were mostly morphometrically homogeneous, with comparatively high similarity; only four populations of G. nivalis from the southern and southeastern part of the country were discrete. It is questionable whether these populations merit formal taxonomic recognition at any infraspecific level, but given their decorative qualities, the selected plants can be introduced into cultivation as horticultural plants.

AB  - U kulturama duglazije u Srbiji obavljaju su istraživanja interakcija genetskog potencijala introdukovanih provenijencija sa ekološkim odlikama lokacija gde su kulture podignute. U cilju bližeg upoznavanja efekta interakcije stanišnih uslova lokaliteta, gde su osnovani provenijenični testove duglazije u Srbiji, na anatomska svojstva četina, obavljena je dvofaktorijalna analiza varijanse. U ovim analizama ispitivan je uticaj dva faktora (lokalitet i provenijencija) na broj epitelnih ćelija u smolnom kanalu četina duglazije.
AB  - The research on the interactions between the genetic potential of introduced provenances and the environmental features of the locations in which the plantations were established was carried out in Douglas-fir plantations in Serbia. The twoway ANOVA was conducted in order to study the effects of the site conditions in the localities of Douglas-fir provenance tests in Serbia on the anatomical properties of needles. These analyses look into the effects of two factors (locality and provenance) on the number of epithelial cells in the resin duct of Douglas-fir needles.

Variability of Nitrogen and Carbon Contents in the Needles of Canadian Douglas-fir Provenances on Two Soil Types in Serbia

AB  - Seed transfer and introduction risks can be reduced by setting up provenance tests and studying the elements of genotypic, phenotypic, physiological, and anatomical structure. Forest tree increment and productivity depend on photosynthesis and the concentrations of nitrogen and carbon in the needles. With the aim of introducing Douglas-fir into Serbia, the Institute of Forestry in Belgrade established several experimental provenance tests to assess the genetic ability of Douglas-fir to adapt to new environmental conditions in Serbia. The provenance tests included fourteen different Douglas-fir provenances originating from Canada. All the trees of the study provenances were of the same age and grown in the same conditions, but on two different soil types: eutric cambisol and vertisol. There was considerable variability of nitrogen and carbon contents in the needles of all tested provenances on both locations. This variability was used as the basis for the study of the intensity and dynamics of the physiological processes of Douglas-fir mineral nutrition as indicators of its capacity to adapt to the sites in Serbia. All Douglas-fir provenances planted on eutric cambisol had higher contents of nitrogen and lower contents of carbon, i.e. narrower C/N ratios than the provenances planted on vertisol. The differences resulted from different conditions for Douglas-fir physiological activity and nutrition in the two types of soil.

AB  - This paper presents the results of the studies of Douglas-fir seeds from Canada aimed at understanding and controlling the processes of the genetic growth potential of Douglas-fir in Serbia. The research was focused on the early stage of Douglas-fir growth, i.e. at the stage of seed germination in the laboratory. We tested the correlation between seed germination, seedling length and the height of plants in the nursery. The seeds from 13 Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) localities were obtained from Canada and compared under laboratory and nursery conditions. The seeds from different altitudes, latitudes and longitudes come from a part of the natural range of Douglas-fir in Canada. Before they are transferred and introduced, seed material must be tested with regard to the potential success of the selected tree species within the shortest possible time. This is necessary for the introduction of a tree species with a widespread natural range. Douglas-fir is a highly productive coniferous tree species with a broad geographical and ecological range. It has a wider natural range than other conifers and greater chances of successful adaptation to new ecosystems. Descriptive statistics, analysis of variance for regression, regression and correlation were used to analyse the data. A strong correlation was established between the height of four-year-old seedlings and seed characteristics (germination rate and seedling length).

AB  - In this paper are presented results of the analysis of inter-line variability of morphometric characters of Bald cypress juvenile seedlings at the level of 20 half-sib lines. Obtained results contribute to better understanding of relationship of analyzed characters, as well as the influence of analyzed characters to the differentiation of half-sib lines. Based on these results, differences were observed in the values of the analyzed characters for each half-sib line individually. The determined values of seedlings' size indicate good genetic and adaptive potential of this species, which can be considered as a starting point for the mass production of quality planting material and its use in Serbia.

A mutual biological similarity or distance of mother trees depending on the analyzed characters was tested. The determined values of the dimensions of cones and seedlings indicate the good genetic and adaptive potential of this species, which can be a starting point for the mass production of Bald cypress seed and planting materials in Serbia.

AB  - Taksodijum je jednodomi, dugovečni listopadni četinar. Pripada familiji Taxodiaceae i rodu Taxodium. U Srbiji je zabeležen samo Taxodium distichum (L.) Rich. koji se uglavnom javlja pojedinačno na zelenim površina većih gradova. Mogućnost šire primene taksodijuma kao šumske vrste treba bazirati na proceni njegovog genetskog i adaptivnog potencijala kao i kvantiteta i kvaliteta uroda, pre svega, na nivou postojeće semenske sastojine taksodijuma. U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja varijabilnosti morfometrijskih svojstava šišarica na nivou 20 test stabala. Utvrđene vrednosti dimenzija šišarica ukazuju na dobar genetski i adaptivni potencijal ove vrste, što se može smatrati polaznom osnovom za masovnu proizvodnju kvalitetnog semenskog i sadnog materijala u Srbiji.
AB  - Bald cypress is monoecious, long-lived, deciduous conifer. It belongs to the family Taxodiaceae and genus Taxodium. In Serbia, there is only Taxodium distichum (L.) Rich. that mostly can be found in the green areas of major cities. The possibility of wider application of Bald cypress as a forest species should be based on an assessment of its genetic and adaptive potential, quantity and quality of yield, primarily at the level of the existing Bald cypress seed stand. In this paper are presented research results of the variability in cone morphometric characters among 20 test trees. The determined values of cone dimensions indicate good genetic and adaptive potential of this species that can be considered as starting point for the mass production of quality seed and planting material in Serbia.

AB  - Background and purpose: Knowledge of the interaction between plant and climatic conditions is of great importance in establishment of new forests, especially in the introduction. Taxodium is an allochthonous species in Europe and this paper presents the data on the success of its introduction and adaptability to site conditions. Material and methods: For the analysis of the climate characteristics in Backa Palanka have been used the data of the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia for the period 1981-2010 regarding meteorological station Rimski Sancevi. Dendrometric analysis was performed on the dominant trees of Taxodium by taking an increment core at breast height using Pressler drill. On the increment cores was measured diameter increment per each year of the observed period. By the regression analysis was determined the correlation between the diameter increment and climate elements. Results and conclusion: By research of influence of climate factors on the diameter increment of Taxodium trees can be concluded that with increasing of values of mean annual temperature and mean temperature during the growing season comes to a reduction in size of the diameter increment. The increase of the quantity of precipitation over a year, particularly during the growing season, leads to the increase of the diameter increment, and vice versa.

The genetic-ecological variation of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in Serbia was studied in the populations at five localities in western and south-western Serbia. Three groups of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) populations were differentiated based on genetic research (seed protein analysis) and plant community research. The first group consists of Scots pine populations on Sargan (FMU "Sargan") and on Tara (FMU "Kaluderske Bare"), where the forests belong to the community of Scots pine and Austrian pine (Pinetum sylvestris-nigrae Pavlovic 1951). The second group covers the localities Stolovi (FMU "Radocelo-Crepuljnik") and Zlatar (FMU "Zlatar I"), where the forests belong to the community of Scots pine and spruce (Piceo abietis-Pinetum sylvestris Stefanovic 1960). The third group comprises the Scots pine population on Pester (FMU "Dubocica-Bare") which belongs to the community of Scots pine with erica (Erico-Pinetum sylvestris Stefanovic 1963). Cluster analysis was performed on the basis of seed protein data and showed that there are three groups of Scots pine populations. The three populations coincide with plant communities. The community of Scots pine with erica (Erico-Pinetum sylvestris Stefanovic 1963) recorded on Pester at the locality "Dubocica-Bare" in the area of FE "Golija" Ivanjica, is a special Scots pine population displayed at the greatest distance from all other populations in the cluster analysis dendrogram.
