AB - The study seeks to provide insights into the subjective experiences and perceived benefits of urban gardening by gardeners in the city of Belgrade. It encompassed several forms of urban gardens, both collective and individual. The study involved conducting semi-structured interviews with 44 gardeners, supplemented by field observations. Thematic analysis revealed seven key themes of benefits. The findings slightly diverged from studies in developed countries, demonstrating less emphasis on the social aspects of urban gardening, as participants did not view social interaction as a primary motivation. Also, there was a stronger focus on the productive and economic aspects of gardening among the retired low-income population of home gardeners with previous experience in agriculture.

AB - The Kosutnjak forest in the city of Belgrade, Serbia, with an area of 259 ha, provides ecological and social benefits to its inhabitants, but its composition has changed in the last 20 years: forest areas have decreased, people have become irresponsible towards the forest and forest soil, and forest degradation is evident. The question is whether the forest has the potential to regenerate and survive. The horizontal assessment of attributes was carried out using data from the official forest database of the administrative unit "Kosutnjak (2007-2016)", which, in conjunction with the basic forest, defines indicators of change, stability, and self-renewal, which assume sustainability and can be a useful tool for sustainable forest management. The attributes and indicators are processed on a three-level alphanumeric scale in Microsoft Excel, and the data collected and analyzed are mapped using ArcGis 9.3. The ability of forests to survive without human intervention was evaluated using the EEFS method of ecological assessment of forest sustainability, which was used for the first time in this study. The results showed that forest change was significant, stability was medium, and self-renewal was low on most sections, so forest sustainability was rated as unlikely. The EEFS method used provided results that can form the basis for a forest management strategy in the city and a platform for the long-term monitoring of forest condition.

AB - The positive impacts of urban forests on residents' health are widely acknowledged. However, the methods used to quantify and demonstrate this relation are still a focus of research. The aim of the paper is to examine the relationship between the size and quality of different urban green areas to residents' health based on the face-to-face survey and remote sensing data at 12 locations in Belgrade. The socio-economic and self-perceived health characteristics were analyzed. Based on green areas' size and pollution, municipalities were divided into "less green" and "green". Vegetation quality was assessed by Sentinel-2 vegetation indexes (VI). Results show that residents in less green and green municipalities differ in physical, social, and emotional health. The quality of green areas was inversely proportional to the amount of money spent on medications and the number of doctor's visits indicating potential mechanisms of the health benefits of green areas. The lack of facilities led to different appreciation among residents. Results suggest that the quality of green infrastructure is more important than the amount in promoting residents' health. Relating the characteristics of green areas to visitors proved to improve the correlation between residents' health and the quality of green areas.

AB - In 2004, a new lithium-rich mineral, 'jadarite', was discovered in Serbia. In 2020, the government of Serbia and mining giant Rio Tinto announced a plan to extract lithium, which sparked massive environmental protests across the country. In this paper, we study perceptions of local communities towards Jadar mineral extraction project, which is planned in the zone of the cultural landscape 'Trsic Tronosa'. We employed a household-level face-to-face survey, conceptually following the sustainable livelihood approach. Results shows that local communities anticipate negative changes in environmental quality, lifestyle, and activities such as agriculture and tourism, which are seen as vital for future development compatible with the cultural landscape conservation goals. Local communities perceive a bias towards private companies by the government authorities, driven by economic interests that, as seen by locals, may also be influenced by international political pressures. Other factors, such as lack of participatory approaches and non-transparent communication were also negatively perceived. We argue that mineral extraction planning in high biodiversity and cultural heritage areas is sensitive because local communities are strongly tied through historical activities and traditions to the landscape and are not willing to trade off their environment for the economic benefits that the mineral industry could bring.

AB - Numerous challenges - from population increase to climate change - threaten the sustainable development of cities and call for a fundamental change of urban development and green-blue resource management. Urban forests are vital in this transition, as they provide various ecosystem services and allow to re-shape and re-think cities. Based on a Europe-wide community effort with diverse experts centered around urban forests and urban greening, we propose five key research fields to generate the knowledge required to unlock fundamental changes in urban development and green-blue resource management: circular bioeconomy, climate resilience, gover-nance, social and human environment, and biodiversity. To support the design of greener, cooler, more inclusive and resilient cities, all these research fields require inter-and transdisciplinary collaboration, engaging stake-holders in transforming urban engagement and functioning. We summarise main inter-, trans-und multi-disciplinary research paths for each field and the cross-cutting knowledge areas that can help to address the challenges many cities face (e.g., modelling and assessment of the urban microclimate). For transforming cities further knowledge is needed on e.g., urban innovation, transition, participation, and more. Finally, we address how the identified research gaps can be implemented (e.g., international coordinated research effort, interdis-ciplinary networks).

AB - A growing body of evidence suggests that invasive plants can affect the
stability of the ecosystem’s key species and influence flows and
transformations of matter and energy in ecosystems. Since Symphyotrichum
lanceolatum complex is one of the highly invasive plants in Serbia and many
European countries, this study set out to determine floristic richness,
structure, and differentiations among the wet sites near linear corridors
and to investigate the significance and representation of S. lanceolatum in
degraded wet habitats. Accordingly, floristic diversity and the presence of
other invasive plants were investigated in 22 wetland habitats. Overall, a
total number of 179 plant taxa was found. Results showed four coenological
groups. According to the invasive species coverage index (D%), S.lanceolatum
dominated in all stands. Overall, based on the results, this study
strengthens the idea that wet habitats belong to the group of habitats that
are most susceptible to plant invasion.

AB - Understanding the relationship between land use and land cover and thermal environment has recently become an emerging issue for urban planners and policy makers. We chose Belgrade, as a case study, to present a cost- and time-effective framework for monitoring spatiotemporal changes of green spaces in relation to the land surface temperature (LST). Time series analysis was performed using Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS imagery from 1991 to 2019 with an approximate 5-year interval (18 images in total). Spectral vegetation indices and supervised land cover classifications were used to examine changes of green spaces. The results showed a fluctuating trend of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the normalized difference water index (NDWI). The highest values were recorded in 2019, indicating vegetation recovery in the last decade. A significant positive correlation was determined between the spectral vegetation indices and the amount of precipitation during growing season. The land cover classification showed that the share of vegetated and bare land decreased by 11.74% during the study period. The most intensive conversion of green and bare land into built-up land cover occurred in the first decade (1991-2000). To assess spatiotemporal changes in the LST, Landsat Collection 2 Surface Temperature products were used. We found a negative correlation between change in the spectral vegetation indices and change in the LST. This indicates that the reduction in vegetation was associated with an increase in the LST. The municipalities that were the most affected in each decade were also identified with our framework. The findings of this study are of great relevance for actions targeting an improvement in urban thermal comfort and climate resilience.

AB - Modern concepts of landscape management are based on new social understandings of natural and cultural resource management, with foundation in international conventions that affirm the participation of local communities in landscape management. This paper presents a new conceptualization of the management paradigm, i.e. a new social model, which is insufficiently represented in Serbia, and on the other hand can have great potential for optimizing the management of protected areas. The paper aims to affirm participation as a model of governance that is a "live issue" worldwide from the socio-political and theoretical-academic aspect.

AB - Aim: This article aims to make clearer, with supporting evidence, the clinical benefits of the nature-based rehabilitation program (NBRP) and the restorative values of visiting botanical garden for people with stress-related mental disorders. Background: Throughout the years, nature-based therapy has been acknowledged as a valuable rehabilitation practice that integrates specially designed natural environments and nature-related activities for people with mental health conditions. Subject and Methods: The comparative analyses of parallel conducted the NBRP at botanical garden and occupational therapy realised at the Day Hospital of the Institute of Mental Health in Belgrade included 27 participants divided into two groups. The data collection employed a mixed method combining a Clinical Global Impression (CGI) Scale and on-site observations. Results: The positive findings on the psychological recovery of the participants seem to be related to NBRP. The restorative potential of the garden was recognized through the observed interaction between participants and the natural entities employed through the various themed activities. The observed landscape elements especially solitary plant specimens or tall and single-form trees within the garden can be embraced as design guidelines for the development of an evidence-based practice that can support the recovery process of people with mental health conditions. Conclusion: Our findings endorse that ongoing social development and progressive urbanization have broadened the interest in scientific research involving nature-based solutions that help preserve the physical and mental health of people in low- and middle-income Western Balkan countries with a high prevalence of mental disorders in the urban environment that relates to social inequalities and natural disasters.

AB - Understanding land users' livelihoods and their strategies is essential in order to adapt prevention and adaptation policies and to ensure sustainable land management (SLM) planning. Considering the global call for SLM, and due to a lack of studies on land degradation (LD) in Tunisia, we aimed to explore the livelihoods of farmers, their livelihoods strategies and perceptions about LD and land management, in order to design SLM in rural areas in Tunisia. We used the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach (SLA) to analyse the livelihoods assets, livelihoods strategies, and the perceptions of people about LD and SLM. Through structured interviews with 90 households, we collected both quantitative and qualitative data on household assets, strategies, and perceptions. Results indicate variation in the status of livelihoods among households, which influences their livelihoods strategies and consequently livelihoods outcomes. When facing environmental issues, farm households apply various livelihoods strategies to shield themselves from negative impacts and shocks. Our study revealed that farmers in the high-livelihoods-assets category chose economic returns over environmental benefits. Farmers in the low-livelihoods-assets category have generated livelihoods strategies that lead to inappropriate management strategies due to low access to assets and, as a result, contributed to LD. This is because these farmers are more concerned about the immediate constraints of their livelihoods and subsistence than the medium and long-term sustainable land management. Compared to the other two groups, farmers in the medium-livelihoods assets category have the best perceptions and flexibility for SLM compared to the other two categories. Thus, as the quality of land is highly dependent on the way it is managed, environmental and land management planning, and policies should not only consider the rehabilitation of land but also require a better understanding of the livelihoods, strategies and perceptions of people as these remain key drivers that affect land condition.

AB - The floristic diversity of Deliblato sands SNR is significantly endangered by the spread of invasive plants. In addition to field research, which included the collection of plant material in the area of Deliblato sands SNR, primary and secondary data was collected in this paper. The primary data for the purposes of this study was obtained by applying a questionnaire technique to the management of the protected area - PE "Vojvodinašume" and an expert interview technique to a representative of the Provincial Institute for Nature Conservation. The secondary data was collected to gain a better and broader understanding of the management of Deliblato sands SNR. Based on the field investigations, the analysis of primary and secondary data on invasive plant species was also recognized as a key threatening factor. An analysis of the floristic structure and composition of these plant species, their origin, as well as the manner of their propagation and reproduction was carried out, in order to make a recommendation on the preventive measures for the protection and suppression of invasive plant species and to improve the habitat. In the area of Deliblato sands SNR, 39 invasive plant species (4,33% of the total flora) were found with different invasiveness categories, among which herbaceous, annual, North American species from the Compositae family prevail. Protection measures include the mapping of habitats of invasive species, establishing cooperation with managers and scientific institutions, constant monitoring of endangered habitats and plant species, as well as the creation of a special sector responsible for enhancing biodiversity.

In the area of Deliblato sands SNR, 39 invasive plant species (4,33% of the total flora) were found with different invasiveness categories, among which herbaceous, annual, North American species from the Compositae family prevail. Protection measures include the mapping of habitats of invasive species, establishing cooperation with managers and scientific institutions, constant monitoring of endangered habitats and plant species, as well as the creation of a special sector responsible for enhancing biodiversity.",

AB - There is a renewed interest in urban gardening in the past decade stimulated by the increased awareness of benefits that it brings to the city, local communities, and individuals. Previous studies have shown different perspectives on urban food growing in the context of developed and developing countries, but less is known about the countries in transition in Southeast Europe. Specifically, no published research has coped with the perspectives of the possible future users of allotment and community gardens. This paper fills the gap to a certain extent by providing first insights into the demand for collective urban gardens in the city of Belgrade. There are no institutional tools at present to support the development of such gardens, although there has been an almost century-long process of advocating collective urban gardening among the experts in city planning. By looking into the possible future needs and motivations of the potential gardeners, specifically, those who are not involved in allotment or community gardening, this study also aims to contribute to the efforts made in the past. The survey was conducted among 300 randomly selected respondents in three municipalities in Belgrade. Data were analysed using factor analytic-multiple regression approach to establish correlations between personal characteristics of potential gardeners and their motivations for gardening. Results indicated a potentially high demand for collective urban gardens, with individual plots slightly preferred to shared gardens. Commonly mentioned motivations are access to healthy and fresh food followed by recreation and light physical activity. People with previous experience in agriculture or gardening are more willing to get involved. Older respondents seem to be more motivated by,subjective well-being", specifically in terms of relaxation and pleasure from gardening. The results of the study could serve as an input for the regulation and planning of collective urban gardens, specifically considering the needs and motivations of the senior population in cities.

AB - Urban Green Infrastructure (UGI) serves both inhabitants' and visitors' numerous and various needs. This research aimed to enhance knowledge regarding the role of UGI in urban tourism. The research questions addressed tourists' perceptions of UGI, their understanding and uses of UGI, and the ways that this understanding influenced their travel choice to specific urban destinations. A cross-cultural comparative study among urban tourists was carried out in eight European countries. The selection of case studies followed a roughly comparative logic, employing the same on-site questionnaire survey administered in a sample of large and medium size cities in Southern European, Central European and Northern European countries. Looking from the perspective of the tourists' countries of origin, our findings validate a well-established trend in international tourism, namely the fact that neighbouring countries tend to be the most significant tourist markets of an urban destination. The other major finding confirmed the most well-known tourist movement patterns of Northern and Central Europeans travelling to the Mediterranean for tourism purposes. While the study revealed that the majority of the tourists interviewed were not very familiar with the term 'Green Infrastructure', nor with specific UGI features offered in the visited cities, the importance of UGI was acknowledged and viewed in a mostly very positive light. The majority of respondents enjoyed visiting UGI and used it for some light physical activity or for purposes of relaxation, socialization, and in order to explore the culture and society of the destination city. The fact that most UGI in the case study cities is located around or within a short distance from important heritage sites provided UGI with an indirect possibility of being included in the tourists' visiting plans. In conclusion, the results of this study may prove to be very helpful to local and regional authorities in considering how to plan, manage and promote an urban tourism destination's green infrastructure as part of the tourism offer.

AB - The financing of protected area (PA) management includes the interaction of different actors that are involved in the process of management and financing, i.e., from the management framework to the mechanisms of financing. The management framework sets the basic preconditions for PA management, while the mechanisms of financing represent the ways of financing PAs based on the long-term and sustainable conditions. The management of PAs in Serbia has mostly been done by public enterprises (PE). It was given to non-governmental organizations (NGO) for the first time in the late 1990s. Today, the management is carried out by different managers from the public sector (PS) to the private sector (PrS). This research deals with different financing mechanisms present in PAs in Serbia. Additionally, it deals with the differences in the financing between different management actors (MA) in order to establish the best financing practices in the PA management system in Serbia. The results indicate that public enterprise "Srbijasume" (PES) has the lowest average number of financial sources, unlike public enterprise "Vojvodinasume" (PEV). Regarding the average amount of financing, other managers from the public sector (OPS) have the largest amount of financing, while other public enterprises (OPE) record the smallest amount of their own financing. In order to improve the use of mechanisms for the PA management system financing, additional training for the use of funds is proposed at national and international level, as well as external, i.e., additional engagement of agencies that would prepare projects at international level. It is also proposed to establish a specific mechanism - a fund intended for nature protection.

AB - Protected area (PA) is a clearly defined geographical space, recognized, dedicated and managed through legal or other effective means to achieve the long-term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values. Organization of protected areas management represents a complex system of different actors that work with each other and different structures and procedures. Therefore, the organization of protected areas management is viewed from a systematic perspective that involves external and internal environments which need to be considered in the process of decision-making. The long-term sustainable management of PAs is defined through three objectives that include conservation, education and recreation, and strengthening of local communities. The organization of National park (NP) and Nature Park (NrP) management includes several functions from the executive management of PAs, through evaluation, protection and conservation of PAs, to technical maintenance of PAs. The main research objective was to study and define the organization of PA management within the defined groups of PA managers in Serbia and examine differences in the PA management in Serbia. The specific research questions to be answered were: (i) how PA management is organized in the field, (ii) what are the differences in the implementation of management documents and (iii) what are the differences in the cooperation with different stakeholders.

AB - This research provides initial examination of the impact that biomorphic forms, implemented in public space as urban design model, has on its potential users. The methods, which were included in this research, was modeling process of biomorphic form of species Bell flower (Campanula persicifolia L.) into urban design model of bench and a visual questionnaire for examination of the visual perception from two target groups. The visual research was based on a validation of a frequently used urban element—bench, on the original photo material which was taken at the city of Belgrade, and a photo-realistic material. At the photo-realistic material, the original urban element was removed by the conceptual model of bench constructed from the biomorphic form. Evaluation of two photos in the visual questionnaire included five criteria that rely on visual capabilities of user’s free assessment and user’s ability for visualization: (1) harmony, unity of space; (2) the legibility of the form of the elements; (3) comfort, amenity; (4) design of the element and (5) innovativeness, attractiveness. Categorical scale was used for assessing quality of criteria by subjects: EXCELLENT, GOOD and BAD. Results of the visual questionnaire indicate that the biomorphic urban design model was generally considered to be excellent and of innovative design, compared to the standard urban model. This innovative urban design model of the public space could be the part of a new approach that has been trying to find a new ways for connecting people with nature and its hidden patterns and forms.

AB - Frequent visits to urban green areas have been widely demonstrated to bring notable health benefits to city residents and helped them to maintain contact with nature. Empirical evidence strongly supports the positive influence of a green environment on the physical and mental health of the population. However, there is a lack of existing literature on the Western Balkan region, with no evidence of whether the impact of urban green spaces on health depends on the type and average amount of green space available. This paper examines the connection between the perceived benefits of urban green areas and the physical and mental well-being of visitors in two central municipalities of the city of Belgrade (Serbia). For this purpose the survey was conducted on two hundred residents of the municipalities of Vračar and Čukarica. The object of the survey was to explore whether residents who live in areas with more green spaces perceive better physical and mental health and spend more time outdoors. A t-test for independent samples showed that the respondents who value recreational activities like walking and common activities perceive more social benefits of a green space. The results indicate that urban green areas are recognised as suitable settings for running and jogging, but also refer to their potential for the alleviation of self-reported nervous problems and medication use, therefore supporting further research on this topic.

AB - In the modem world, industrial and technological development resulted in many challenges to general health and urban planning so the evaluation of natural resources has become a social need for overcoming these problems. Nowadays, the different forms of urban green areas represent one of the most important elements of the built environment, which directly affect physical activity, health, and mortality. This paper analyses the perceived health benefits of the students-volunteers who agreed to spend five consecutive weeks of their recess time in an existing Arboretum in the city of Belgrade. The aim of this study is to gain some basic knowledge of the restorative potential of the urban forest environment and to identify perceived physical, mental and social benefits of the younger population using a survey. The survey was analysed by an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Additionally, DASS21 was used for psychometric evaluation of the mental well-being of respondents so the control group was included. The two-factor analysis of data on the total score recorded marginally significant interaction testing between the groups (F-1.45 = 3.781; p lt .058), indicating a higher tendency to the stress reduction at the arboretum group. Further, the findings from the IPA indicate that the spatial qualities such as such greenery, lawn, and benches are important for the restorative experience in an Arboretum. The research outputs indicate that the urban forest environment in the city of Belgrade has a potential to support restorative experience and daily habits of a younger population.

AB - Poor conservation outcomes, following decades of intrusive resource management strategies and planned development have forced policy makers and scholars to reconsider the role of the community in resource use and conservation. Changes in the theoretical approach but also the practice of planning environmental protection measures have brought forth the issue of people participation. It is now widely assumed that participation of the population is required in order to achieve sustainable development and effective conservation, which can bring economic and social benefits to marginal groups and that the devolution of decision-making policy benefits biodiversity. The focus of our research is on two local communities in the area of Mt Besna Kobila. This mountain represents a valuable natural resource, while also being an area characterised by a poor rural population. The concept of 'sustainable livelihood strategies' plays a crucial role in the discussion of rural development, poverty reduction and the management of natural resources. Consequently, the concept of sustainable livelihood strategies was applied to two villages in this area. How to integrate sustainable livelihoods with the protection of natural resources and objectives of sustainable development is a central problem facing the Mt Besna Kobila area. In order to understand how local communities integrate available livelihood assets such as human, natural, social, physical and financial capital, a series of household interviews were conducted, which were then used as an applied method. Furthermore, the opinions of the local community about nature protection and the potential of tourism were studied as an incentive for the development of this area. The results show a lack of physical and financial capital in the surveyed villages. It was found that the migration of local people leads to a low quality of human capital in the mountain area, while on the other hand natural and social capital are highly valued. The results of this study indicate that local communities have positive opinions towards the conservation of natural resources on Mt Besna Kobila, and cooperation with local authorities and the development of ecotourism represent mechanisms to improve the socio-economic environment of the study area.

AB - The general disproportion of urban development and the socio-economical crisis in Serbia, followed by a number of acute and chronic stressors, as well as years of accumulated trauma, prevented the parallel physical, mental and social adaptation of society as a whole. These trends certainly affected the quality of mental health and wellbeing, particularly on the vulnerable urban population, increasing the absolute number of people with depression, stress and psychosomatic disorders. This study was pioneering in Serbia and was conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Forestry, the Institute of Mental Health and the Botanical Garden in Belgrade, in order to understand how spending time and performing horticulture therapy in specially designed urban green environments can improve mental health. The participants were psychiatric patients (n = 30), users of the day hospital of the Institute who were randomly selected for the study, and the control group, assessed for depression, anxiety and stress before and after the intervention, using a DASS21 scale. During the intervention period the study group stayed in the Botanical garden and participated in a special programme of horticulture therapy. In order to exclude any possible "special treatment" or "placebo effect", the control group was included in occupational art therapy while it continued to receive conventional therapy. The test results indicated that nature based therapy had a positive influence on the mental health and well-being of the participants. Furthermore, the difference in the test results of the subscale stress before and after the intervention for the study group was F1.28 = 5.442 and p lt ;.05. According to socio demographic and clinical variables, the interesting trend was recorded on the subscale of anxiety showing that the male participants in the study group were more anxious, with the most pronounced inflection noted on this scale after treatment. The results of this study have shown that recuperation from stress, depression and anxiety was possible and much more complete when participants were involved in horticulture therapy as a nature-based solution for improving mental health.

AB - Urban forests contribute to social, aesthetic and economic benefits within cities. In urban forest management, these aspects are often not incorporated, especially in the countries of South East Europe (e.g. Serbia), where the management of urban forests is still dominated by classical forestry aims (i.e. timber production). This paper analyzes the Kosutnjak urban forest in Belgrade, with a special emphasis on the needs of its visitors and the importance of its use. We aim to raise awareness of the social benefits that this urban forest provides to residents and offer suggestions for sound and responsible management, which are based on the assumption of active and regular involvement of visitors. This case study contributes to a better understanding of visitors' relationships with this urban forest, which is an important urban forest at the country level. Visitors of this urban forest completed a face-to-face survey, which indicated that most of the visitors came from surrounding neighborhoods, mainly for active recreation (engaging in sports) and relaxation in the forest. Most of respondents were satisfied with the management and maintenance of the area. Nevertheless, they offered suggestions for improvements. Most of the visitors would be willing to get personally involved in a decision-making process regarding the area and showed a willingness to pay money toward the maintenance via fees. Thus, this study demonstrates the potential and need of public involvement in the management of such urban forests. The findings indicate that this approach could help decision makers express commonly shared values in management decisions.

AB - In everyday life, urban residents, especially the younger population, have given up some healthy habits of spending their free time outdoors in urban forests or parks. This study was conducted in order to understand how urban nature might help in reducing psychological stress and improving mental wellbeing. The participants were volunteer students of the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade (n=47). These students were randomly recruited in the study and control group and self-tested using DASS 21 scale. The Arboretum of the Faculty of Forestry represented a research location and a special healing environment with a high variety of species. The study group stayed at the Arboretum during the study break period, while a control group was inside the Faculty. After the intervention, a slightly greater reduction in stress scale on the total score was recorded in the study group (F1.45 = 3.781; r lt .058). This study has shown that urban green areas can have a positive impact on the mental well-being and reveal their role as a great response to the stress from urban population.

AB - Climate change and invasive plant species pose extraordinary ecological challenges to the world today. In addition, global warming enables invasive plants to spread more widely. Biological invasions are seen as a major threat to biodiversity on a global level, while the number of new invasions is increasing at an alarming rate. Raising the awareness of the public, the academic world and policy makers about the dangers caused by invasive species is essential for the creation of the support needed to implement and coordinate the policies necessary to address this problem. The aim of this study is to determine the level of local public awareness of the existence of these plant species, examine their attitudes towards alien invasive plant species and their willingness to get involved in the prevention of their spread. The survey was conducted in three nurseries and one garden centre in the territory of the city of Belgrade. The population that visits the nurseries and garden centre in order to buy plants were subjected to the survey method. The results show that the local public is uninformed on the issue of invasive plant species. It is necessary to constantly and intensively raise their awareness of this issue, as well as the awareness of the harmful consequences that may occur due to the uncontrolled spread of alien invasive species.
