AB - This paper presents the results of research on the effects of prior soil preparation on artificial regeneration by mountain beech forests (Fagenion moesiacae montanum) in weed-covered plots on Juzni Kucaj Mountain. Research was conducted on the survival of one-year-old containerized seedlings in weed-covered sites where different auxiliary measures had been carried out, i.e. the following methods of soil preparation: 1) control area, with no preparation; 2) living forest ground cover (blackberry) removed; 3) living forest ground cover removed and soil tilled to a depth of 10 cm; 4) only the soil tilled. The above treatments were performed with five repetitions each for further statistical processing. Analysis of variance showed no statistically significant difference at level p lt 0.05 in initial seedling height, so that this did not considerably affect the influence of the different soil preparations on seedling growth. Half of the planted seedlings were treated with the chemical "Zeba" in order to establish and monitor its effects and needs for its use. The product has a sponge effect underground, meaning that it can absorb and retain moisture in the soil to be used later by the plants. The analysis carried out showed that only in certain elements were there statistically significant differences in one-year-old seedling height increment (annual shoot length).

AB - Seed and seedling tests, performed with the aim of acquiring knowledge about the genetic potential of selected provenances, are generally one of the first trials in a complex system of comparative examinations to be conducted upon the introduction of alien tree species. This paper presents the results of the investigation of the dependence of the mean height of 14 Canadian origin Douglas-fir provenances, originating from latitude 49° 10' to 51° 35', longitude 11 ° 20' to 120° 10' and the altitude of 488 to 1,070 m, on the geographic origin. Understanding the variations in the mean height of a seedling is of major importance for acquiring knowledge on genetic potential of selected provenances, which are one of the key parameters for the introduction of Douglas fir into relevant forest sites in Serbia.

AB - The study was carried out in Serbian spruce (Picea omorika Panc/Purkyne) plantations in the western Serbia. The paper presents results of the analysis of crown development. The following elements were analyzed: total tree height, height of the crown base, absolute and relative crown length, maximal crown diameter, coefficient of crown spreading and degree of crown girth. We discuss approaches to the modeling of tree crown growth and development, growing under favorable environmental and stand conditions, without anomalies in development. In order to establish the relationship between analyzed factors, regression analyses were applied. Data fitting was by the analytic method, by the implementation of Prodan's functions of growth, linear and parabolic function. Received models can be used for the simulation of various growth and developing processes in forest.
