AB - Climate change increasingly impacts urban dendroflora, affecting plant physiology and phenological phases. This paper investigates the impact of changing climatic conditions on the blooming of Fraxinus ornus 'Globosa', a decorative form of ash that is a significant component of green infrastructure in Novi Sad, Serbia. The research, conducted over 15 years on 42 individuals in a linear planting near a large river, analyzed temperature and precipitation effects on blooming times and inflorescence characteristics The results indicate changes in the timing of blooming, earlier than recorded in the literature, suggesting that temperature variations and changes in climatic conditions have significantly influenced the phenological phases of the selected clones of globe flowering ash. Additionally, the studied individuals showed exceptional adaptation to climate change and are not considered vulnerable. This study confirmed that this cultivar of flowering ash in urban environments is a key link in the green infrastructure of cities, functioning as green corridors along river flows as a nature-based solution. The studied cultivar is an important element of cultural heritage, contributing to the recreational potential of the linear composition of the promenade, especially during the flowering phenophase, when, in addition to its aesthetic values, it has psychological effects on users of the space, offering a calming influence due to its regular canopy and planting rhythm. Additionally, this cultivar provides important ecological functions, such as offering pollen for pollinators, thereby significantly contributing to the implementation of ecosystem services.

AB - Urban green infrastructure plays a crucial role in sustainable city development by offering a multitude of benefits, including improved environmental quality, increased social well-being, and enhanced economic prosperity. Evaluation and monitoring of regulatory implementation stand as essential components in the advancement of urban green infrastructure (GI) as they indicate the efficacy of regulatory acts and enable the assessment of their implementation success and adaptability to identified needs. This study identifies barriers and drivers based on the views of 352 professionals surveyed between 2018 and 2023 in Serbia. The primary data collection method employed questionnaire surveys. This study identified a range of barriers within existing legal frameworks, foremost of which include the lack of coordination and coherence between relevant ministries and governmental agencies, insufficient financial and human resources, the lack of transparency in the regulation development process, the need for strengthening technical capacities, and the absence of an adequate urban GI strategy. This research serves as a foundation for conceptualising GI regulatory elements that enhance urban GI development. Addressing these barriers necessitates efforts to improve coordination and collaboration among stakeholders, increase public participation, and enhance transparency in the regulatory process.

AB - Urban trees play a vital role in mitigating climate changes, maintaining the sustainability of ecosystems. This study focuses on the assessment of the resilience of cherry plums to climate changes, a fruit-bearing species that offers diverse ecosystem services within multifunctional urban and suburban landscapes. This study examines flowering and fruiting in the context of climate characteristics, expressed through the Day of the Year (DOY), Growing Degree Days (GDDs), and a yield over 17 consecutive years. The results indicate significant shifts in the DOY but not in the GDD, apart from the end of flowering. The onset of flowering was earlier and the end postponed, extending the phenophase by an average of 4 days. The cherry plum's yield was unaffected by climate changes, including extreme events like a late-spring frost. The stability of the cherry plum was confirmed by the phenological patterns of the bullace (cherry plum and blackthorn hybrid) exhibiting repeated flowering in the warmest year of 2023. The cherry plum is an adaptive species, with a high adaptability to a changing climate and a high resistance to late-spring frosts; thus, it is a favorable choice in urban design and planning, demonstrating resilience to climate shifts and thriving in polluted urban environments. It is especially appreciated for multiple ecosystem services: biodiversity conservation in natural and semi-natural areas, yielding good provisions in challenging environments, and the preservation of ornamental values through an extended flowering phenophase.

AB - The research aims to assess the significance of early (winter) jasmine as a fundamental component within Belgrade's urban green infrastructure (UGI) in Serbia. Through a specific case study, it investigates the intricate interplay between climate, biodiversity, and vegetation across spatial and temporal scales influenced by climate change. The study analizes the layout of UGI, its various spatial typologies, and the importance of relation between these characteristics, morphology and phenology for the social and cultural context. Results demonstrate that Weeping Winter Jasmine, particularly during its cold-season flowering phase, enhances visual appeal and attractiveness without conflicting with ethical, spiritual, or cultural values. Morphological analysis of 2,250 flowers revealed a distinction between trimmed and free-growing plants, yet differing characteristics did not impact flowering abundance or visual perception. Flowering phenology was monitored across the municipalities of Savski venac, Vra & ccaron;ar, and & Ccaron;ukarica to assess shifts in flowering patterns. Over the autumn, winter, and spring of 2022/2023, 30,925 phenological observations were recorded, while 125,600 from the period 2007-2022 were utilized to determine key flowering phases and events important for landscape design. Cluster analysis delineated location 3 from locations 1 and 2, which share similarities and are influenced by the urban heat island (UHI) effect, confirming phenological changes are a prominent indicator of climate change. Despite belonging to the oldest group, location 3 individuals exhibited the longest flowering phenophase, commencing 54.5 days earlier and concluding 15 days later compared to the previous sixteen-year period. The study confirmed the importance of Jasminum nudiflorum Lindl. as a UGI element in Belgrade, sustaining vibrant and cascading displays throughout the colder months and maintianing social and cultural contribution of the location amidst climate change.

AB - The study focuses on describing key events in the flowering phenophases of woody taxa that promote practical landscape sustainability and design planning. Apart from the beginning of flowering, the full development and the duration of phenophases are important for landscape architecture, consumers, and pollination. The phenological patterns of 13 woody taxa were monitored for 16 years through 90,860 phenological observations from the BBCH scale for the period 2007-2022. Growing degree days were determined by combining phenological and climatic data and a linear trend was used to assess phenophase tendencies. Mann-Kendall and Sen's slope tests and Spearman's correlation coefficient were used to assess statistical significance. Shifts in flowering indicated warming trends, reflecting various changes in phenology. Early flowering taxa were affected the most, but plants shifted phenophases in both directions (earlier and later in the year). Repeated flowering (and occasionally fruiting) and even third flowering, as seen in 2022, can significantly affect biodiversity and lead to plant-pollinator asynchrony and changes in ecosystem functioning, ecological interaction, and landscape design. A list of native and introduced taxa and their adaptation mechanisms to climate change are provided and can be used for sustainable landscape design and nature-based solutions in landscape architecture.

AB - Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) H. Karst.) is one of the ecologically and economically most important species in European forestry. According to the latest genocenological tests, environmental factors have a significant influence on the species' survival, and there is no decrease in variability in the periphery of its areal, thus the research of its resilience requires work on "plus" trees. The paper analyzed differences in thermal data of leaves in the sun and shade, trunk bark in the shade, and control surfaces in the sun: dry grass, dry soil, asphalt, and concrete, to obtain data on temperature differences as indicators of species resilience and to understand the impacts of local climate change in mountainous regions. In the summer of 2022, surface temperatures were recorded with a thermal camera on Mount Cemernik in Southeastern Europe. Monitoring and analysis of air temperatures included interpolations using a digital elevation model (DEM) and was based on the percentile method. The research results confirm significant differences between the temperatures of leaves and control surfaces. The importance of this paper is in the wide application of selected, resilient, Norway spruce "plus" trees in forestry, landscape architecture, and horticulture in Southern European habitats where scenarios predict that the climate will change, and the Norway spruce will move north.

AB - Identification and analysis of proliferated cones in conifers has both theoretical and practical significance, particularly in systematic and taxonomic investigations, but also in the study of population and individual variability within a species. Comparative morphological-anatomical studies of reproductive organs can contribute to solving many issues in phylogeny and can iden- tify abnormal phenomena in cone formation. In light of the value of such information, this paper presents the results of monitoring European larch Larix decidua Mill. cone proliferation in Serbia over a 24-year period, with the aim of studying cone apical meristem activity, which usually is limited. Cone proliferation was confirmed by comparative morphological and genetic-physio- logical analyses of cones from European larch growing in the Arboretum of the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade, at ages of 41, 51, and 65 years old.

AB - Determining Norway maple's traits variation, especially the variation of flowers, in different environments, and isolating superior individuals enables strategic use and prediction of its prospects. In Serbia's natural and urban populations, Norway maple populations were sampled for morphology of the flowers and inflorescence and its sex was determined. Norway maple inflorescence's width and the number of the flowers vary the most and are a mechanism of adaptation to various environments. The sex of flowers, diameter, and the number of petals characterize the species. A negative correlation between the size and the number of flowers in inflorescence and a positive correlation between inflorescence's width and the number of flowers per inflorescence reflects the species' tendency toward the same size of inflorescences. The morphology of flowers in the natural population varies the most. Based on the inflorescence's width, the number of flowers per inflorescence, and the size of flowers of superior individuals, microflora and macroflora cultivars can be isolated. Variations in inflorescences' morphology are partially explained by environmental conditions. The morphology of urban population is not significantly different from the natural populations nor does it stand out in any of the parameters. This species' large morphological variability enables survival in various environments.

AB - This paper analyzes the morphological and dendrometric characteristics of three 97 years old European spruce trees, on Čemernik mountain, in the municipality of Crna Trava, where European spruce is not autochthonous. The examined parameters were compared with 5 test European spruce trees, aged about 50 years, which are grown in the population, within a radius of 100 m, in identical environmental conditions. The results of this study confirm the excellent vitality of hundred-year-old trees at the researched location, which can be brought into direct correlation with the current climate changes. The selected trees have confirmed the best combinatorial ability, which is why they stand out as a good base for selection and production of planting material for establishing purpose culture, afforestation, application in landscape architecture, and also for timber production. The research confirmed that the analyzed hundred-year-old spruce trees are in excellent condition and high decorative value, with a crown formed from the ground, which is why they are proposed for protection as a natural monument of botanical character.

AB - Urban green areas used directly for active and passive recreation, and indirectly affect the quality of the urban environment and quality of life of residents. Green areas Ibar Quay is located in the central town of Kraljevo and extending along the left bank of the river Ibar. In urban recreational areas may appear wild, planted and sown plant species. Increasingly, these areas occupy invasive and allergenic plants that have a very adverse impact on the health status of people in urban areas. The presence of invasive plants on green areas is not desirable because, in addition to the negative effects they have on human health, the negative impact on biodiversity and threatening native vegetation. The analysis of trees and shrubs and lawns of the area, it was noted the presence of allergenic and invasive plants. Was recorded, and analyzed 35 woody and herbaceous plant taxa 85. In the analyzed flora grass areas there were already 68 genera and 27 families. Of the total, 12 were invasive herbaceous plants, 2 as invasive seedlings of woody plants that can be removed by proper and regular care measures and mowing. Also is recorded 1 woody taxa in the category of invasive plants that can only be removed by mechanical means cutting trees. While 25 herbaceous plants recorded from category allergens, as well as 10 tree taxa. Studies have confirmed the inadequate maintenance of lawns, and the largest presence of invasive herbaceous weeds Cynodon dactylon L., Erigeron annuus (L.) Desf., Cichorium intybus L. and of a woody plant Ailanthus altissima Mill. The exposure of the investigated area, anthropogenic influence constitutes the essential factor to facilitate the settlement of invasive plants. Monitoring and control of the presence of invasive and allergenic plant taxa of the study area is necessary to protect the health with users, indigenous vegetation and the environmental quality of urban city space.

AB - In order to develop a sustainable urban environment, the modern approach to landscape design emphasizes the importance of environmental quality which promotes health and amenity and in which all members of a community can equally meet their needs. An important prerequisite for the design of high-quality parks in landscape design is respecting the needs and expectations of users. The quality of an urban area is the intensity with which open areas are used for the purposes of different activities and it is referred to as the utilization potential of an area. As a result of the extensive research of literature, the quality criteria for city parks are defined as: accessibility, activity / diversity of facilities and equipment, amenity and sociability. This study aims to determine the importance of the proposed quality criteria which are effective in assessing city parks as places for a successful design. The utilization potential is evaluated by using the quality criteria in the case of urban park Tasmajdan in Belgrade. The method of a structured survey was conducted on the sample of 300 randomly selected users. The research results show that the four tested criteria are very important for assessing the utilization potential of a park. Also, the obtained results are important for establishing the principles and recommendations that can be implemented in the process of landscape design, aimed at improving the quality of parks to meet the needs of its users for certain types of activities and achieve the appropriate use of parks.

AB - Paulownia elongata S. Y. Hu, has exceptionally fast growth in juvenile stage (more than 3 m in the second year). Due to its characteristic of easy generative and vegetative propagation (tissue culture) and renewal, it currently presents the most suitable plant for biomass production in our region, with short rotation time. Poplar clones provide raw material for paper and pulp industry at the moment, and this industry is the biggest softwood consumer in Serbia. Anatomical properties of wood mechanical fibres in Paulownia elongata S. Y. Hu juvenile wood have not been researched in Serbia, since this species has been recently introduced from China (1993). The aim of this paper is to explore the impact of habitats (soil) and fertilisation on wood fibre dimensions in juvenile wood of Paulownia elongata S. Y. Hu. Samples for research of wood fibres originate from experimental plantations of Paulownia elongata S. Y. Hu, 2 years of age, from two different sites: Obrenovac-Veliko polje and Ub-Pambukovica. Based on research of wood anatomy, it has been concluded that there are significant statistical differences in wood fibre dimensions in Paulownia elongata S. Y. Hu from different habitats. Research of wood fibre dimensions in Paulownia elongata S. Y. Hu juvenile wood from two different sites contributes to determine its use for the pulp industry, which supports cultivation of this fast growing species (Table 3, 4 i 5).

AB - Parkway trees in urban environments have a pivotal ecological role, primarily because they modify microclimatological parameters. Norway maple is a suitable species for these purposes since it is very adaptable to city conditions. This characteristic of Norway maple allows urban trees to be used as a basis for biodiversity conservation. Bilaterally symmetrical fruits of Norway maple are particularly convenient for the exploration of developmental stability and the role of genetic and environment in variability of morphological characteristics of Norway maple. Variability change through different conditions could be used for creation of a scale that could serve to predict morphology of Norway maple in different environments. The differences between fruits collected from 4 locations show great variability of the species, but the size and appearance of the fruits are in accordance with literature data and do not deviate in any group of samples. Despite similar normal distributions of groups, the fruits differ significantly, although these variations are not consequences of a cause-and-effect connection between environment and appearance of fruits. Variability of samples taken from the urban environment does not differ from variability of samples taken from natural habitats. The large variability of Norway maple is expected since it has a wide ecological amplitude as well as a small plasticity, which is typical of species adapted to shadowy conditions. The great variability of fruit morphology within each individual is typical of Norway maple, so these could be used as representatives of the population in which they are grown. In this paper it is shown that the differences found between fruits are the result of genetic variations mosaic; that is, they are different ecotypes of Norway maple, since bilaterally symmetrical fruits do not have significantly different left and right sides, which shows the developmental stability of Norway maple.

AB - The general population genetic characteristics of cultivated horse chestnut trees excelling in growth, phenotype characteristics, type of inflorescence, productivity and resistance to the leafminer Cameraria ohridella Deschka and Dimic were analyzed in Serbia. The analyzed population genetic parameters point to fundamental differences in the genetic structure among the cultivated populations in Serbia. The study shows the variability in all properties among the populations and inter-individual variability within the populations. The variability and differential characteristics were assessed using statistical parameters, taking into account the satisfactory reflection of the hereditary potential. The assessed differences in the vitality and evolution potential of different populations can determine the methods of horse chestnut gene pool collection, reconstruction and improvement.

AB - Wetlands are among the most vulnerable habitats on the planet. Very complex forest ecosystems are also parts of wetlands. Research and analysis of forest vegetation elements, leads to a conclusion about ecological conditions of wetlands. The aim of the paper is detail forest vegetation study, and analyzing the impact of climate changes on wetland forest vegetations of the strict protection area at the SNR Zasavica Ramsar site. Field research was carried out by using Braun-Blanquet's Zurich-Montpelier school method. Phytogeographical elements and life forms of plants were determined subsequently, in order to get indicator values of wetland plants. Coupled Regional Climate Model (CRCM), EBU-POM was used for the climate simulations. Exact climatic variables for the site were determined by downscaling method. Climatic variables reference values were taken for the period of 1961-1990, and climate change simulations for the period 2071-2100 (A1B and A2). Indicator values of forest plants taken into consideration were humidity and temperature; therefore, ecological optimums were determined in scales of humidity and temperature. Regional Climate Model shows that there will be a long and intensive dry period in the future, with high temperatures from April till October. Continental winter will be more humid, with higher precipitation, especially in February. Based on the analysis of results it was concluded that wetlands are transitional habitats, also very variable and therefore vulnerable to changes. The changes may lead to the extinction of some plant species.

Analizom rezultata došlo se do zaključka da su vlažna staništa prelaznog karaktera, veoma varijabilna, a samim tim i osetljiva na promene koje mogu da dovedu do iščezavanja nekih biljnih vrsta., Wetlands are among the most vulnerable habitats on the planet. The changes may lead to the extinction of some plant species.",

AB - The neoteny of 64-day-old European plane tree autovegetative progeny is described, starting from the fact that sexual maturity in the juvenile stage of tree development is a rare and significant process by which the period of synthesis of new lower taxonomic units is shortened. The observed formation of European plane tree reproductive organs has been classified as induced neoteny. Compared to the inflorescences of mature European plane trees, the number of precocious inflorescences was lower, flower structure was simpler, and the diameters of inflorescences were the same. As neoteny is a genetic and physiological marker for the tree genotype and the species, and as it is classified as an example of parallel-inherited variability explained by changed interactions of trophic, hormonal and genetic systems, this analysis of neoteny can be a contribution to its further scientific study and its practical utilization at a larger scale.

AB - The analysis of several morphological traits and phenotypic characteristics of ginkgo seedlings in juvenile tests with half-sib lines in two successive years provide the bases for further planting stock breeding and production for the purposes of urban coenoses and for the establishment of target plantations of this species. The comparative analysis enables the identification of planting stock for further breeding programmes with the aim of getting new ginkgo varieties. Thus, the justification for the protection of the researched ginkgo genotypes and the need for their multiplication were confirmed.

AB - Horse chestnut (Hippocastani semen) seed is an important raw material for the pharmaceutical industry because it contains a series of biologically active substances: starch (30 to 40%), saponins (10%), fatty oil (5.5%), proteins (6%), cellulose (2%), reductive sugars (5.5%) and ash (1.3%). However, the variability of fatty oil content in horse chestnut seed (H. oleum) has been insufficiently investigated. This study was performed in populations of horse chestnut trees in towns of Serbia and in the plantation on Mt. Avala. The seeds were collected from 15 test trees of each locality. The content of fatty oil in the seed cotyledons was determined by extraction with petrol ether in the apparatus after Soxlet. Fatty acids were determined and identified in the fatty oil. The analysis was performed by the method of gas chromatography (by the gas chromatograph "Varian" model 1400 with flame ionising detector). The presence of ten fatty acids was determined: myristic, palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, arachic, linolenic, eicosenoic and erucic acids. Based on the results, it can be concluded that horse chestnut seed, according to fatty oil content, composition and representation of individual fatty acids, is a significant raw material for pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

AB - Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) is one of the most valuable species of Serbia's noble hardwoods. Based on the results of previous research, it can be concluded that this is a species with a pronounced ecological plasticity and high genetic potential. From the aspect of ornamentalness, one of the most frequent cultivars in urban green spaces and tree rows is the cv 'Atropurpureum', also known as 'Spaethii' or 'Purpureum'. It is distinguished by dark green leaf adaxials and purple undersides, which give the crown an extraordinarily attractive appearance. The genetic potential of the analyzed mother trees can be used for the mass production of the Acer pseudoplatanus 'Atropurpureum' and Acer pseudoplatanus plants needed for urban green area maintenance and creation of tree rows. Special attention should be paid to the potential of mother trees 5 and 3; their descendants, along with purple leaf undersides, also have high average height values for five-year old plants.

AB - The taxa with the improved esthetical characteristics, increased or decreased productivity, higher resistance to diseases, insect attacks, air pollution, as well as with optimal adaptability in urban coenoses are of great importance to landscape architecture, horticulture and forestry. The criteria for the selection of individual plants out of the number of many individuals depend on their future usage, but also on their esthetical features, morphology and physiology. One of the species that fulfils the above criteria is Paulownia tomentosa (Thumb.) Sieb. et Zucc. Different morphophysiological features of royal paulownia cultivated on green areas in Banovo Brdo, Dorćol, Tašmajdan, Novi Beograd and Zemun are analyzed. The study results prove the adaptability of royal paulownia on green areas in Belgrade, but also the need to select the parent trees with the best combining features prior to production, aiming at the improvement and production of planting material for urban coenoses and specific-purpose plantations of this species.

The taxa with the improved esthetical characteristics, increased or decreased productivity, higher resistance to diseases, insect attacks, air pollution, as well as with optimal adaptability in urban coenoses are of great importance to landscape architecture, horticulture and forestry. The study results prove the adaptability of royal paulownia on green areas in Belgrade, but also the need to select the parent trees with the best combining features prior to production, aiming at the improvement and production of planting material for urban coenoses and specific-purpose plantations of this species.",

AB - Based on the comparative morphophysiological analysis of the seedlings Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. produced in a generative manner by using one line of the oldest half-sib tree and two lines of younger half-sib trees, data regarding the seedlings' features and the variability of the plant breeding are presented. Recorded parameters are the indexes which point to the influence of age over biological reproduction. This paper also puts forward that the variability of the seedlings exerts an influence on the selection of mother trees, and provides the technology of production of breeding plants with desired features and its practical usage in landscape architecture, horticulture and forestry. Namely, by selecting the superior genotypes and with their breeding, different sorts of koelreuteria (Chinatree) could be synthesized and thanks to the high level of general adaptability would provide reciprocally high productivity of studied parameters and be the base material for plants for specific purposes.
