AB  - The paper presents the results of a study on the regime of light and regeneration in a pure sessile oak stand in 'Fruska Gora' National Park in Serbia. Pure sessile oak stands cover 3960.73 ha or 17.6% of the area. The study stand is ecologically classified as the forest of sessile oak with fescue (Festuco drymeiae - Quercetum petraeae Jank. 1974) on acid brown and illimerised soil over sandstone. The 96 year-old stand is even-aged and vegetative. It is located on east and west facing slopes at an altitude of 450 m, with the slope inclination of 32 degrees. The starting hypothesis of this paper was that light regime has significant effects on the success of sessile oak forest regeneration. Data collection was performed in early July 2008. The study of regeneration elements (seedling number, height and quality) was conducted at the end of the growing season at the seedling age of 3. Light conditions that arc most favorable for regeneration include the intensity of illuminance between 5000 Lx and 10000 Lx, i.e, 1 1,3% to 22.6% of full daylight. The number of seedlings and their spatial distribution on the regeneration plot are in these specific site and stand conditions affected by the light regime of the area, making light most decisive, but not the only factor affecting their spatial distribution.

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati proučavanja prirodnog podmlađivanja u šumi hrasta kitnjaka vegetativnog porekla, na području NP "Fruška gora". Proučavana sastojina pripada monodominantnoj šumi hrasta kitnjaka sa trepljastim šašem (Quercetum petraeae caricetosum pilosae Jov. 1975) na ilimerizovanom zemljištu na peščaru. Sastojina je jednodobna, u vreme podmlađivanja starosti 96 godina. Nalazi se na 467 m nadmorske visine, na južnoj do jugozapadnoj ekspoziciji i nagibu terena od 8 o. Ukupan broj stabala je 220 po ha, srednji sastojinski prečnik dg = 34,8 cm, a srednja sastojinska visina hdg = 21,4 m. Sastojina je srednje negovana i okarakterisana kao kvalitetna izdanačka šuma na očuvanom staništu. Na osnovu detaljno proučenih uslova staništa i sastojinskog stanja analizirano je prirodno podmlađivanje, inicirano i usmereno vođeno odgovarajućim uzgojnim merama. Vršena su proučavanja brojnosti trogodišnjeg podmlatka, njegove visine i kvaliteta. Posle izvršenog naknadnog seka oplodne seče vršeno je proučavanje preživljavanja i brojnost četvorogodišnjeg podmlatka, i jednogodišnjeg visinskog prirasta u konkretnim stanišnim i sastojinskim uslovima.
AB  - The paper presents the results of the study of natural regeneration in the vegetative forest of sessile oak in the area of NP`FruškaNP`FruškaGorà. The study stand belongs to the monodominant forest of sessile oak with hairy sedge (Quercetum petraeae caricetosum pilosae Jov. 1975) on illimerized soil on sandstone. The stand is even-aged, aged 96 at the time of regeneration. It is located at 467 m above sea level, with southern to southwestern aspect and the slope of 8 o . The total number of trees is 220 ind. per ha, with the mean stand diameter of dg = 34.8 cm, and the mean stand height of hdg = 21.4 m. The stand is moderately tended and characterized as a good quality coppice forest on a well-preserved site. Based on a detailed study of site conditions and the stand state, we studied the natural regeneration initiated and directed by appropriate silvicultural measures. The number of three-year-old regeneration crop was studied, as well as their height and quality. After the removal cut of regeneration felling had been carried out, we studied the survival rate and the number of four-year-old plants, as well as the annual height increment in concrete site and stand conditions.

AB  - This paper analyzes the spatial distribution of different soil types and soil
   systematic units in MU „Doroslovacke sume“. The most common soil type is
   chernozem, primarily of calcalourus type. Research has shown that the soil
   types secondary in prevalance are calcalourus gleyed and brownized, which is
   a finding that significantly differs from the previously available data.
   Calcalourus variety of chernozem, which is characterized by its automorphic
   genesis and high content of CaCO3, is a drier site type and therefore offers
   less favourable conditions for cultivation of tree species. The analysys of
   spacial distribution was followed by study of soil properties.

AB  - Prvi provenijenični testovi bukve u Srbiji su osnovani u proleće 2007. godine u okviru COST akcije E52: 'Evaluation of Beech Genetic Resources for Sustainable Forestry'. Testovi su osnovani na dva lokaliteta: Fruška gora (severni deo Srbije) i Debeli Lug (istočni deo Srbije). S obzirom da se u prethodnim godinama, istraživanje varijabilnosti i adaptibilnosti provenijencija bukve vršilo paralelno u oba testa, nametnula se potreba da se detaljnije ispitaju klimatske i stanišne karakteristike lokaliteta, kako bi se stvorila jasnija slika o njihovom uticaju na istraživane osobine kod bukve. S toga je u radu dat detaljan, uporedni prikaz: a) klimatskih karakteristika lokaliteta, b) pedoloških karakteristika lokaliteta i c) stepen prisutnosti i pokrovnosti predstavnika korovske vegetacije. Od klimatskih parametara su prikazane godišnje i srednje mesečne vrednosti najvažnijih klimatskih elemenata: prosečna temperatura vazduha, suma padavina, pluviometrijski i hidrični bilans; klimatsko-geografske karakteristike - termodromski koeficijent po Kerner-u, Lang-ov kišni faktor, pluviometrijska ugroženost i indeks suše po De Martonn-u. Pripadnost istraživanih područja određenim klimatskim tipovima je određena po metodu Thornthwaite-Mather-a i Lang-a. Pedološke karakteristike lokaliteta su date kroz fizičke i hemijske osobine zemljišta. Fitocenološka snimanja su obavljena po metodu Braun-Blaquet. Životne forme biljaka određene su prema Raunkiaer - u. Rezultati istraživanja upućuju na zaključak da se lokaliteti Fruška gora i Debeli Lug u velikoj meri razlikuju u pogledu posmatranih karakteristika, a samim tim i pogodnosti za rast sadnica bukve.
AB  - The first provenance trials of European beech in Serbia were established in spring of 2007 in the framework of COST Action E52: 'Evaluation of Beech Genetic Resources for Sustainable Forestry'. Trials are placed on two localities: Fruška Gora Mountain (northern part of Serbia) and Debeli Lug (eastern part of Serbia). In the previous years, several studies regarding variability and adaptability of different European beech provenances were conducted in these sites. In order to understand the complex effect of site characteristics on provenance performances, it was needed examination of environmental characteristics of given localities. Therefore, the aim of this study is detail, comparative analysis of: a) climate characteristics of sites, b) pedological characteristics of sites and c) degree of presence and cover value of weed flora. Annual and mean monthly values of major climate elements, significant for the development of vegetation are presented: mean temperature, sum of precipitations, pluviometric and hydric balance, climate-geographical characteristics - thermodrome coefficient after Kerner, Lang's rain factor, pluviometric hazard and drought index after De Martonn. Climate type was determined using Thornthwaite-Mather and Lang's method. Pedological characteristics are given throught the physical and chemical properties of soil. Phytocenological observations were performed using Braun-Blaquet method. Life form of plants was determined after Raunkiaer. Results revealed significant differences in environmental characteristics between sites Fruška Gora Mt and Debeli Lug, which could lead to different performances of provenances depending on site of planting.

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati proučavanja zemljišta obrazovanih na peščarima u šumama hrasta kitnjaka (Quercetum montanum typicum Čer. et Jov. 1953) na području Fruške Gore. Na stalnim oglednim površinama osnovanim u gazdinskim jedinicama 'Čortanovačka šuma-Hopovo-Velika Remeta' i 'Beočin-Manastir-Katanske Livade-Osovlje', na području NP 'Fruška Gora', u cilju praćenja uticaja režima svetlosti na razvoj podmlatka hrasta kitnjaka u datim ekološkim uslovima, na osnovu morfogenetskih karakteristika zemljišta i analitičkih vrednosti proučenih osobina zemljišta, a prema klasifikaciji zemljišta Škorića i sar. (1985) definisana su dva tipa zemljišta: kiselo smeđe zemljište (distrični kambisol) i ilimerizovano zemljište (luvisol). Kiselo smeđe zemljište pripada formi srednje dubokog, a ilimerizovano formi dubokog zemljišta.
AB  - The soils formed on sandstones in sessile oak forests (Quercetum montanum typicum Čer. et Jov. 1953) were researched in the area of Fruška Gora. On permanent sample plots established in management units 'Čortanovačka Forest-Hopovo-Velika Remeta' and 'Beočin-Manastir-Katanske Livade-Osovlje', in the are of NP 'Fruška Gora', aiming at the monitoring of the effect of light regime on the development of sessile oak progeny in the given environmental conditions, based on the morphogenetic characteristics of the soil and analytic values of the soil properties, and based on the soil classification by Škorić et al. (1985), the following two soil types were defined: acid brown soil (dystric cambisol), and illimerised soil (luvisol). Acid brown soil belongs to the form of medium deep soils, and illimerised soil is classified as deep soil.

Phytocoenological characteristics in poplar plantations in the protected region of the central Danube basin

AB  - Following the water regulation along the Danube river, the area of natural forests decreases and the vegetation is fragmented. The goal of the study was to survey the recent phytocenological characteristics of the region of the protected floodplain outside the dam. We surveyed three site types in poplar plantations near Novi Sad. In the poplar plantations phytocoenological releves were made. The elevation of the study plantations is between 75 and 76 m a.s.l. The most represented species on the ground layer are the species Dactylis glomerata, Urtica dioica and Rubus caesius identified on the humofluvisol. The most represented species on the sandy part of the fluvisol were Rubus caesius, Solidago serotina, Dactylis glomerata and Equisetum arvense. The loamy form of fluvisol occurs at an elevation of 75.50 m. The most numerous species on the loamy form of the fluvisol in the flooded region were Rubus caesius, Solidago serotina, Polygonum hydropiper, Dactylis glomerata and Urtica dioica. Based on the above data, we determined the differences between ground vegetation in the study areas and in the part of the alluvial plain affected by additional moisture by both floodwater and ground water.

AB  - Izmena hidrološkog režima u poloju reke Save na području Srema, kao posledica pada nivoa podzemnih voda, dovela je do sukcesije brojnih higrofilnih tipova šuma ka suvljim varijantama. Ovaj proces naročito je karakterističan za staništa topola na kojima je, na osnovu ranijih tipoloških istraživanja, definisano 13 ekoloških jedinica. Zbog pomenutih izmena u režimu njihovog vlaženja pristupilo se dodatnim pedološkim i proizvodnim proučavanjima sa ciljem ponovnog preispitivanja njihovih karakteristika, sličnosti i razlika, a u vezi sa tim i opravdanosti postojanja u pomenutom broju. Sublimirani rezultati ovih proučavanja pokazali su da se ekološke jedinice na staništima topola u poloju reke Save diferenciraju u 2 signifikantno različite grupe. Prva grupa nalazi se u klasi nerazvijenih hidromorfnih zemljišta i obuhvata samo jednu ekološku jedinicu (T-84), dok se druga prostire u klasama semiglejnih i glejnih zemljišta i obuhvata ostale ekološke jedinice (T-77, T-78,T-79 T-80, T-81, T-83, T-85, T-87, T-88 i T-89).
AB  - The changed hydrological regime of the river Sava valley in the region of Srem, as the consequence of the lower underground water level, resulted in the succession of numerous hygrophilic forest types to more arid varieties. This process is especially characteristic of poplar sites where 13 ecological units were defined based on previous typological studies. Because of the changes in the moisture regime, additional soil and productivity studies were undertaken aiming at the new analysis of characteristics, similarities and differences, and consequently to judge if the above number of ecological units is justified. The results of these studies show that ecological units of poplar sites in the river Sava bottom land arc differentiated into two significantly different groups. One group is in the class of undeveloped hydro-morphic soils and includes only one ecological unit (T-84). The other group is in the classes of semigley and gley soils and it includes all the other previously defined ecological units (T-77, T-78, T-79, T-80, T-81, T-83, T-85, T-87, T-88 and T-89).
