The Influence of Moisture Content on Strength of Window Corner Joint

AB  - The tendency to improve the energy efficiency of windows has led to an increase in the number of panes used. The greater weight of the window sash leads to a loss of its geometry during normal usage. This deformation of geometry is caused by its own weight, and thus reduces the efficiency of preventing heat loss. All the positive effects that are obtained by using multiple panes of glass are thus lost. As window manufacturers often try to cut production costs by shortening the time of kiln drying, this paper researches the effect of using elements with different moisture content. Articles on similar topics were reviewed and it was found that there were no available data on the researched topic. Only about 20 different articles on similar topics were found, but the starting conditions or input was greatly different. Also, there are no official standards that cover the strength of window corner joints. This paper analyzes the influence of the change in moisture of the elements on the strength of the joint. Three groups of window corner joint samples were examined. The first group of samples was the control group that was supposed to determine the strength of the joint when the window beams were made with the recommended moisture according to a corresponding standard (12 +/- 2%). In the second and third groups, the moisture of the beams was taken as a variable factor, namely the moisture content of 18 +/- 2%. The results of this study show that the strength values of the currently used corner joints (double mortise and tenon) are different at different moisture contents. As expected, the samples with the recommended moisture content had higher strength values than the samples with the higher moisture content. There are many challenges in proper kiln drying and the final moisture content has a crucial impact on window strength. As windows have a specific purpose in buildings, they should have sufficient strength to be properly used over a long period. These obtained results should demonstrate the importance of the moisture content of wooden beams used in window production.

Determination of the strength performance of table frames

AB  - The objective of this study was to investigate the relation of diameter of pilot hole and screw, and machining accuracy on withdrawal strengths of the screws and durability of the dining tables. For this purpose, fasteners and material types on the failure loads of dining table corner joints have been analyzed experimentally and statistically. Double ended thread bolts with different drilling regimes have been used as fastener types. A parallel investigation of rigidity and durability of tables, and withdrawal capacities in accordance with the according to current norms, was performed. According to the results, it is concluded that the diameter of the drilled hole significantly influences the value of the withdrawal strengths of the screws. By analyzing the effect of drilling diameter on the rigidity of tables, a statistically significant difference was determined. As the drilling diameter increases, the rigidity of the examined dining tables decreases.

AB  - The objective of this research was to analyse the effect of thermal modification of ash wood (Fraxinus excelsior L.) at moderate temperature of 160oC and three processing parameters: spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut in CNC face milling operation on surface quality, expressed by arithmetic surface roughness parameter (Ra). In order to determine material properties, moisture content (MC), density, swelling, anti-swelling efficiency (ASE) and contact angle for both untreated and thermo-treated ash wood have been measured. Highly effective, incomplete 33 Box-Behnken factorial design was made, with three levels of cutting speed: 8.000, 12.000, and 16.000 rpm; three levels of feed rate: 1.000, 1.500 and 2.000 mm/min; and three levels of depth of cut: 2, 4, and 6 mm. According to the above design matrix, all groups of 50x50x30mm samples have been machined with two machining strategies: raster and offset. Surface roughness parameter Ra was measured per each run. Response - surface analysis (RSM) was applied to the parameter Ra for all sets of samples. The 3-D response surface plots, polynomial equations and ANOVA tables have been obtained per each observed input variable, for both machining strategies (raster and offset). The results indicated that the thermal modification of ash wood at 160 oC improved it`s physical properties: decreased MC, improved wood density, improved ASE and increased wood hydrophobicity. Polynomial equations and ANOVA tables showed different behaviour of untreated and treated ash wood regarding changing of machining parameters in experimental space. Offset processing strategy, gave better results in the quality of wood surface, than raster processing strategy for all types of samples. Thermal modification of ash wood at 160oC improved surface quality after machining for both processing strategies.

AB  - The choice of optimal pressing regime for certain types of substrate is of great importance in production of veneered panels. In this paper, the impact of pressing regime on the bonding strength of beech and oak veneers, glued with urea-formaldehyde (UF) adhesive, on medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and moisture-resistant MDF (MR MDF) substrates was examined. The analyses showed a generally higher bond strength with oak veneer compared to beech veneer, which was also the case with regular MDF compared to moisture-resistant MDF. Multivariate analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that with beech veneer, all of the used regimes produced better results on regular MDF compared to moisture resistant MDF. In contrast, with oak veneer, the influence of pressing regime had a more noteworthy impact than the type of substrate used. These results indicated that the use of MR MDF as substrate in combination with UF adhesive was inadequate.

Variability of dry film thickness of a coating applied by roller coater on wood in a real industrial process

AB  - This study investigates variation in the dry film thickness (DFT) of a coating applied by roller coater on the surface of wood in real industrial conditions on a UV finishing line. It was examined how DFT is influenced by the temperature of the liquid top coating, the position of the sample on the conveyor, and the position of the measurement point along the length of the sample. The three-way interaction between the temperature of the liquid top coating, position on the conveyor and position along the sample did not have a statistically significant impact on DFT. However, an increase in the temperature of the liquid top coating (from 24.1 to 24.8 degrees C) caused a decrease in the viscosity of the coating and a significant reduction in DFT when samples were positioned closer to the coating supply hose or in the middle of the conveyor. When the temperature of the liquid top coating was lower, the variation in DFT at different positions across the conveyor was not significant. A higher temperature of liquid top coating led to significantly smaller DFT for samples closer to the supply hose and in the middle, compared with those further from the supply hose. It was also found that DFT was greater at the forward end then at the back end of sample.

Size and character of the loads in corner joints within storage furniture

AB  - The variations in number and method of applied joints within storage furniture gave idea for this investigation. Importance of joint selection and its geometrical characteristic is clear if we bear in mind that the joints are critical points in the structure, and the rigidity and durability of storage furniture are in direct correlation with the type of the applied joint. Results presented in scientific papers provide little useful information to the engineer for the safe selection of the optimal joint. Number of joints along the connecting line (depth of the box type element) engineers determined empirically. In order to define stress state in the storage furniture, data on size of the load, that the box element has to with stand during its use, should be determined. The aim of this study was to determine the size and character of the loads in corner joints in storage furniture. Based on this data, as well as on the basis of information about the strength of the corner joints it is possible to calculate the required number of appropriate joining elements for each separate case.

AB  - U radu je ispitana mogućnost uvođenja tretmana drveta pre lakiranja vodorazredivim transparentnim akrilnim (VTA) premazom u cilju poboljšanja osnovnih svojstava lakirane površine koja zavise od interakcije premaza i podloge. Ispitivanja su obavljena na uzorcima drveta bukve (Fagus moesiaca C.), a za tretman su korišćeni vodeni rastvori polielektrolita slabog i jakog tipa: polietilenimin (PEI) i poli(dialildimetilamonijum-hlorid) (PDADMAC), respektivno. Navedeni polielektroliti su nabavljeni u dva razreda molekulskih masa. Varirane su koncentracije rastvora polielektrolita, a promena molekulske konformacije jakih polielektrolita u rastvoru je ostvarena dodatkom soli. Modifikacija površine drveta nakon tretmana rastvorima polielektrolita ocenjena je na osnovu stepena upijanja vode, sposobnosti kvašenja površine vodom i premazom, slobodne površinske energije, površinske hrapavosti i analize hemijskih karakteristika drveta nakon tretmana. Interakcija VTA premaza i uzoraka bukve analizirana je sa stanovišta dubine penetracije premaza, hrapavosti lakirane površine i jačine adhezije očvrsnulog filma premaza. Poređenjem efekta rastvora polielektrolita utvrđeno je da se tretiranjem bukovog drveta 1 % rastvorom PEI visoke molekulske mase može umanjiti hrapavost lakirane površine (za 45 %, izraženo parametrom Ra) uz očuvanje jačine adhezije premaza. Uz to, primenom navedenog tretmana moguće je dvostruko umanjiti debljinu mokrog filma VTA premaza uz poboljšanje estetskog kvaliteta lakirane površine (smanjivanjem hrapavosti) i očuvanje vrednosti jačine adhezije premaza na uzorcima bukve. Na taj način se troškovi materijala i vreme obrade u proizvodnim uslovima mogu smanjiti uz poboljšanje estetskih i očuvanje adhezivnih svojstava sistema drvo-premaz.
AB  - In this study the possibility of introducing the treatment of wood before coating with water-borne transparent acrylic (WTA) coating in order to improve the basic properties of coated surfaces, that depend on the interaction between wood and coating, was investigated. Tests were performed on samples of beech wood (Fagus moesiaca C.) and for the treatment aqueous solutions of weak and strong type of the polyelectrolytes were used: polyethyleneimine (PEI) and poly(diallyldimethylammonium-chloride) (PDADMAC), respectively. Two classes of molecular weights of named polyelectrolytes were used. In addition, concentrations of polyelectrolyte solution were varied, and the change in molecular conformation of strong polyelectrolyte in solution was accomplished by the addition of salt. The modification of wood surface after treatment with polyelectrolyte solutions was evaluated based on the relative water uptake, the possibility of surface wetting by water and coating, the surface free energy, surface roughness and chemical characteristics of wood after treatment. The interaction of water-borne transparent acrylic coating and beech samples was analyzed based on the depth of coating penetration, surface roughness of coated surface and adhesion strength of the cured film coating. Comparing the effects of different polyelectrolytes it was found that the treatment of beech wood with 1 % solution of PEI HMW can reduce the roughness of coated surfaces (for 45 %, expressed by parameter Ra) while preserving the adhesion strength of the coating. In addition, the application of the above named treatment can reduce the wet film thickness of WTA coating by double along with enhancement of aesthetic quality of coated surfaces (reduced surface roughness) and maintaining the values of the adhesion strength of coatings on beech wood samples. In this manner, the cost of materials and processing time in manufacturing conditions can be reduced with improvement of the aesthetic and conserving the adhesion properties of the wood-coating system.

AB  - Novel soy alkyd-based nanocomposites (NCs) were prepared using TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) surface modified with different gallates, and for the first time with imine obtained from 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and oleylamine (DHBAOA). Unmodified and surface modified anatase TiO2 NPs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, while the amount of adsorbed ligands was calculated from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results. Surface modification of TiO2 NPs was confirmed by FTIR and UV-Vis spectra. The influence of the TiO2 surface modification on the dispersion of TiO2 NPs in alkyd resin, thermal, barrier and mechanical properties and chemical resistance of alkyd resin/TiO2 NC coatings was investigated. The obtained results revealed that glass transition temperature of all investigated NCs is lower than for pure resin, that the presence of TiO2 NPs surface modified with gallates had no significant influence on the thermooxidative stability of alkyd resin, while TiO2-DHBAOA NPs slightly improved alkyd resin thermooxidative stability. Also, the presence of surface modified TiO2 NPs improved barrier properties, increased stress and strain at break and hardness and chemical resistance and decreased modulus of elasticity and abrasion resistance of alkyd resin.

AB  - Očvrsnuo film premaza uvek sadrži određene nepravilnosti koje su posledica postupka i uslova nanošenja. Iz tog razloga u cilju postizanja visokog sjaja lakirane površine, uz primenu premaza visokog stepena sjaja neophodno je poliranje lakirane površine tj. brušenje lakirane površine vrlo sitnim brusnim zrnima. U ovom radu ispitano je kako pojedine faze procesa poliranja utiču na hrapavost lakirane površine i stepen sjaja. Hrapavost lakirane površine izražena je parametrima: Ra; Rz i Rt; a sjaj lakirane površine je određen primenom dve geometrije merenja: 20o i 60o.Utvrđeno je da kroz faze poliranja hrapavost lakirane površine opada, a stepen sjaja raste. Visoka vrednost koeficijenta determinacije (R = 0,984) pokazala je da postoji linearna zavisnost između parametra hrapavosti Ra i sjaja lakirane površine (mereno pod uglom od 60o). Primena dve geometrije merenja (20o i 60o) je potvrdila potrebu primene geometrije od 20o kada se određuje sjaj visoko sjajnih površina, jer standardna geometrija od 60˚ ne obezbeđuje sagledavanje malih razlika u stepenu sjaja koje nastaju kao posledica poliranja.
AB  - The cured finishes always contain certain irregularities that result from the technique and conditions of application. For this reason, in order to achieve smooth high gloss finished surfaces, it is necessary to polish ('rub-out') surfaces coated with high gloss finish. Rubbing means sanding the finished surfaces with very fine abrasive grits. In this paper we explored how each phase of the polishing process affect the surface roughness and the gloss of coated surface. The surface roughness was expressed by the parameters: Ra, Rz and Rt, and the gloss was determined by reflectometer (measurement angles 20˚ and 60˚). The results showed that through the stages of polishing, surface roughness decreased, while gloss of finished surface increased. The high value of the coefficient of determination (R2 = 0,984) indicated the linear dependence between the roughness parameter Ra and gloss of finished surface (at measuring angle of 60˚). The comparison of gloss results obtained by two measuring angles, confirmed the need for using the angle of 20˚ when determining the gloss of high gloss surfaces, since universal angle of 60˚ did not provided insight to small differences in the gloss that appeared as a result of polishing.

AB  - Cilj ovoga rada je bio utvrđivanje optimalnog sistema pripreme podloge bukovog drveta (Fagus Silvatica L.) u cilju postizanja viših vrednosti adhezije pojedinih vrsta premaza. Rezultati ispitivanja su pokazali da se obradom drveta brušenjem dobijaju niže vrednosti parametara hrapavosti u površinskom sloju u odnosu obradu drveta glodanjem. Smanjivanje hrapavosti podloge u površinskom sloju rezultovalo je porastom adhezije 2K akril - izocijanatog premaza. Kada je lakiranje vršeno primenom 1K vodorazredivog premaza, više vrednosti adhezije su zabeležene na površinama sa većom hrapavosti podloge. Direktna veza između hrapavosti podloge i adhezije 2K poliuretanskog premaza nije pronađena. Mehanizam adhezije između 1K vodorazredivog premaza i podloge drveta je prvenstveno zasnovan na mehaničkom vezivanju, dok je adhezija 2K akril - izocijanatog premaza i drveta zasnovana na drugim mehanizmima vezivanja.
AB  - In order to achieve an enhancement of adhesion of specific type of coating to the surface of beech wood (Fagus Sylvatica L.), the optimum substrate preparation system was determined regarding the specific coating formulation. The results showed that lower values of surface roughness parameters can be obtained by the sanding process than by the planning process. These lower values of surface roughness enable higher adhesion of a 2K acrylic-isocyanate coating. In cases where coating is performed with a 1K waterborne coating, higher values of adhesion were observed on the surfaces with higher surface roughness. Direct correlation between surface roughness and adhesion of a 2K polyurethane coating was not found. The adhesion between a 1K waterborne coating and the wood substrate is primarily based on a mechanical bonding (entanglement), while the adhesion of a 2K acrylic-isocyanate coating is primarily based on the other bonding mechanisms.

AB  - This paper investigates the impact of the staining of spruce wood (Picea Abies Karst.) on the adhesion of different types of coating. The samples were stained with water-based stain and lacquered using three types of transparent coatings: nitrocellulose (NC), polyurethane (PU) and waterbased coating (WB). Since the water from the stain leads to swelling of wood tissue and an increase of roughness in the surface layer, surface roughness of wood was measured before and after staining and related to the adhesion of coatings. Among unstained samples, the highest values of adhesion (4.50 MPa) was obtained in samples lacquered with WB coating, fallowing by samples lacquered with PU coating (3.72 MPa) and samples lacquered with NC coating (2.43 MPa). Staining of wood had a negative impaction the value of adhesion in the case of WB coating (4.11 MPa). The increase in surface roughness as a result of staining had a positive impaction the value of adhesion for samples which were lacquered with PU coating (4.87 MPa). The samples which were stained and lacquered with NC coating showed a slight increase in adhesion value compared to samples lacquered with same type of coating without staining (2.74 MPa).

AB  - The possibility of photochemical improvement of color stability by UV-irradiation treatment at coating-wood biointerfaces was investigated. The surface of beech wood was partially delignified by exposure to UV-irradiation by passing of samples under UV lamps: a mercury (Hg) lamp with a peak wavelength of 366 nm, a gallium (Ga) lamp with peak wavelengths at 410 and 420 nm and a combination of a mercury and a gallium (Hg + Ga) lamp. After UV-irradiation, the samples were coated with a UV-curable acrylic coating. The number of passes under the lamps was varied to determine the optimum combination of the number of passes and the lamp type that produces the smallest change in color of the coated wood in an indoor environment. The coated samples that had been UV-irradiated by passing 15 times under both an Hg lamp and a Ga lamp showed the smallest change in color (decrease in the Delta E by 23.23% compared to the untreated coated samples) after 72 h of accelerated artificial sunlight exposure. Microscope images of the same samples showed deformation of the cells in wood surface layer and a roughening of the "wood-coating line", which could be related to a partial removal of lignin. These findings suggest that delignification of wood leads to more photo-stable polymer-wood interfaces in terms of color.

AB  - U radu je ispitan uticaj bajcovanja drveta trešnje (Prunus avium L.) na vrednosti adhezije tri najčešće korišćene vrste premaza u drvnoj industriji: nitroceluloznog (NC), poliuretanskog (PU) i vodorazredivog (WB) premaza. Bajcovanje je vršeno korišćenjem dve vrste bajca: vodenog i nitro bajca. Bajcovanje drveta trešnje dovelo je do porasta hrapavosti, izraženo preko parametra Ra, za 49,1 % kada je površina tretirana vodenim bajcem, odnosno za 5,1 % kada je površina tretirana nitro bajcem. Vrednost adhezije premaza na površini drveta je merena metodom rešetke i metodom pečatnika. Upoređenju različitih vrsta premaza, najniže vrednosti adhezije pokazali su uzorci lakirani NC premazom (3,29 MPa), dok su uzorci lakirani PU i WB premazom pokazali značajno više vrednosti adhezije (6,96 i 7,91 MPa, respektivno). Bajcovanje drveta trešnje vodenim ili nitro bajcem ima pozitivan uticaj na vrednost adhezije NC i PU premaza, dok kod primene WB premaza uticaj bajcovanja na vrednost adhezije nije zabeležen.

Staining was done using two types of stains: water-based and nitro-based stain. Staining of cherry wood led to an increase in surface roughness, expressed by the parameter Ra for 49.1% when the surface was treated with water-based stain, and for 5.1 % when the surface was treated with nitro-based stain. The value of adhesion of coating on the substrate surface was measured by 'cross-cut test' and 'pull-off test'. AB  - Za razliku od mekih vrsta drveća, podaci o dužinskom nastavljanju tvrdih lišćara su veoma oskudni. Cilj ovog rada je da se ispita uticaj šeme opterećenja na savojnu čvrstoću bukovih gredica nastavljenih pomoću klinasto zupčaste veze. Sa stanovišta konstrukcije klinasto zupčasti spojevi predstavljaju osnovni način dužinskog nastavljanja gredica prilikom izrade lameliranih elemenata. Ispitivanje savojne čvrstoće dužinski nastavljenih gredica od tvrdog drveta na teritoriji Srbije gotovo da nije ni vršeno. Ispitivana su dva profila klinasto-zupčastih spojeva u skladu sa DIN68140. Klinasto-zupčasti spojevi su izrađivani po boku i po stranici gredica. Uzorci nastavljeni po dužini opterećivani su i po boku i po stranici. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata došlo se do zaključaka da pravac opterećenja, površina lepljenja kao i položaj spoja utiču na čvrstoću dužinski nastavljenih gredica.
AB  - Limited information is available on end gluing hardwoods in contrast to softwoods, which have been extensively investigated. The objective of this study was to examine the influence of bending pattern on bending strength of finger jointed beech wood. In structural uses finger jointing is finally the major method to end joint timber for the production of glue-laminated elements. There are no bending strength experimental results for finger-jointed hardwoods for investigations conducted in Serbia. Two finger jointed profiles were studied in accordance with DIN68140. The finger joints were made by side and by face of beam. Length jointed samples were loaded at the side and in the face. The obtained results led to the conclusion that the direction of load, gluing surface and the position of joint influence on the strength of continued longitudinal beams.

AB  - U radu je ispitan uticaj vrste završnog premaza na osnovna mehanička svojstva lakirane površine: utiskujuću tvrdoću, otpornost na grebanje i otpornost na abraziju. Korišćene su tri vrste završnog premaza: 2K poliuretanski premaz, 2K akril-izocijanatni premaz i 2K alkid-uretanski premaz. Da bi se utvrdilo da li drvna vrsta, koja nije u neposrednom kontaktu sa završnim premazom, ima uticaja na mehanička svojstva lakirane površine u ispitivanju su korišćeni uzorci dve drvne vrste: smrče (Picea abies Karst.) i hrasta (Quercus robur L.). Najviše vrednosti utiskujuće tvrdoće pokazali su uzorci lakirani 2K akril-izocijanatnim premazom, kod obe drvne vrste (1,34 N za smrču; 1,4 N za hrast), dok su najviše vrednosti otpornosti na grebanje (20 N kod obe drvne vrste) i otpornosti na abraziju (gubitak mase premaza od 480 mg nakon 700 ciklusa kod obe drvne vrste) pokazali uzorci lakirani 2K alkid-uretanskim premazom. Ispitivanja su pokazala da drvna vrsta nema uticaja na vrednosti utiskujuće tvrdoće, otpornosti na grebanje i otpornosti na abraziju lakirane površine.
AB  - This paper investigates the impact of the top coating on the basic mechanical properties of a lacquered surface, including indentation hardness, scratch resistance and abrasion resistance. Three types of the top coating were used, including a 2K polyurethane coating, a 2K acrylate-isocyanate coating and a 2K alkyd-urethane coating. Samples of two wood species, spruce (Picea abies Karst.) and oak (Quercus robur L.), were used in this study, in order to determine whether the wood species, which is not in direct contact with the top coating, has an impact on the mechanical properties of a lacquered surface. The samples coated with a 2K acrylate-isocyanate coating showed the highest values of indentation hardness, in the samples of both wood species (1.34 N for spruce; 1.4 N for oak). The samples coated with a 2K alkyd-urethane coating showed the highest values of scratch resistance (20 N for both wood species) and abrasion resistance (mass loss of 480 mg after 700 cycles for both wood species). The results have shown that the wood species does not affect the value of indentation hardness, scratch resistance and abrasion resistance of a lacquered surface.

Ispitivanja su pokazala da drvna vrsta nema uticaja na vrednosti utiskujuće tvrdoće, otpornosti na grebanje i otpornosti na abraziju lakirane površine., This paper investigates the impact of the top coating on the basic mechanical properties of a lacquered surface, including indentation hardness, scratch resistance and abrasion resistance. Three types of the top coating were used, including a 2K polyurethane coating, a 2K acrylate-isocyanate coating and a 2K alkyd-urethane coating. Samples of two wood species, spruce (Picea abies Karst.) and oak (Quercus robur L.), were used in this study, in order to determine whether the wood species, which is not in direct contact with the top coating, has an impact on the mechanical properties of a lacquered surface. The samples coated with a 2K acrylate-isocyanate coating showed the highest values of indentation hardness, in the samples of both wood species (1.34 N for spruce; 1.4 N for oak). The samples coated with a 2K alkyd-urethane coating showed the highest values of scratch resistance (20 N for both wood species) and abrasion resistance (mass loss of 480 mg after 700 cycles for both wood species). The results have shown that the wood species does not affect the value of indentation hardness, scratch resistance and abrasion resistance of a lacquered surface.",

U poređenju različitih vrsta premaza u završnom sloju najviše vrednosti adhezije, mereno metodom pečatnika, pokazali su 2K akril-izocijanatni (3,72 MPa za uzorke smrče i 5,45 MPa za uzorke hrasta) i 2K alkid-uretanski premaz (3,76 MPa za uzorke smrče i 5,49 MPa za uzorke hrasta). Određena odstupanja u oceni adhezije metodom rešetke u odnosu na vrednosti adhezije dobijene metodom pečatnika pokazala su neophodnost primene više metoda u vrednovanju adhezije očvrsnulog filma premaza na površini drveta.
AB  - This paper investigates the impact of wood species and formulation of coating in the top layer to the adhesion of cured coating. The samples of spruce and oak wood were coated with 2K polyurethane coating in the basic layer, while three types of coatings were used in the top layer: 2K polyurethane, 2K acrylic-isocyanate and 2K alkyd-urethane coating. Measurement of adhesion was performed by the cross-cut and pull-off method. AB  - U ovom radu ispitan je uticaj brušenja, operacije bajcovanja i primene poliuretanskog i akrilnog premaza na adheziju, otpornost na grebanje i otpornost na abraziju premaza. Cilj rada je bio određivanje najznačajnijih mehaničkih svojstava lakirane površine, sa stanovišta upotrebe Paulownia elongata i Paulownia fortunei, uz primenu različitih sistema površinske obrade drveta. Za ispitivanje adhezije premaza korišćen je metod rešetke. Obuhvatniji prikaz adhezije premaza dobijen je merenjem otpornosti na grebanje. Otpornost na abraziju je ispitana metodom slobodnog pada abrazivnih čestica. Primenjeni sistem brušenja nije imao uticaja na ispitivana mehanička svojstva. Bajcovani uzorci lakirani PU premazom pokazali su bolju adheziju u odnosu na nebajcovane uzorke. Uticaj bajcovanja na otpornost na grebanje nije utvrđen. Bajcovani uzorci pokazali su veću otpornost na abraziju kod obe drvne vrste. Više vrednosti mehaničkih svojstava pokazali su uzorci lakirani PU premazom u poređenju sa uzorcima lakiranim UV akrilnim premazom. Primena PU premaza za površinsku obradu Paulownia elongata i Paulownia fortunei je adekvatnija od primene UV akrilnog premaza, sa stanovišta otpornosti na grebanje i abraziju.
AB  - This paper presents the research of influence of sanding, staining and the use of polyurethane and acrylic coating on the adhesion, scratch resistance and abrasion resistance of the coating. Objective was to determine the most important mechanical properties of lacquered surfaces, considering the application of Paulownia elongata and Paulownia fortunei, by using different systems of surface finishing. Cross cut method was used for measurement of adhesion. More accurate view of coating adhesion was obtained by measuring the scratch resistance. Abrasion resistance was tested by the method of free falling of abrasive particles. The applied system of sanding had no effect on the examined mechanical properties. Stained samples lacquered with PU coating showed better adhesion to the non-stained samples. Impact of staining on scratch resistance is not established. Stained samples showed greater resistance to abrasion for both wood species. Samples lacquered with PU coating showed the higher values of mechanical properties compared with samples lacquered with UV acrylic coating. Application of PU coating for surface finishing of Paulownia elongata and Paulownia fortunei is more adequate than the application of UV acrylic coatings, from the point of scratch resistance and abrasion resistance.

AB  - U ovom radu ispitivan je uticaj pripreme površine podloge na sposobnost kvašenja poliuretanskih lakova metodom kontaktnog ugla. Uzorci su izrađeni od dve vrste paulovnije (Paulownia elongata i Paulownia fortunei). Svi uzorci su obrađeni rendisanjem (glodanjem), posle čega je vršena obrada brušenjem pri čemu su uzorci podeljeni u grupe. Za svaku grupu u odnosu na pravac drvnih vlakana, određen je sistem obrade brušenjem, zasnovan na numeraciji brusnog papira, redosledu smenjivanja brusnih traka različite numeracije i pravcu brušenja. Kvalitet pripreme podloge posle brušenja izražen je preko parametara hrapavosti u sistemu 'M': Ra, Rz, Rv, Rp i Rt. Za merenje kontaktnog ugla korišćen je transparentni poliuretanski (PU) lak i destilovana voda. Vrednosti kontaknog ugla dovedene su u vezu sa sistemom brušenja preko parametra hrapavosti Ra.
AB  - This paper presents the research of influence of wood surface preparation on the wetting ability of polyurethane coatings, by the method of contact angle. The samples were made of two species of Paulownia (Paulownia elongata and Paulownia fortunei). All the samples were processed by planing (molding). After molding, the samples were arranged in groups and sanded. In relation with wood grain direction, each group had a particular system of sanding, based on the numbering of sanding paper, program of displacement of sanding papers with different numbering and the direction of sanding. The quality of wood surface after sanding was expressed by the values of roughness parameters in the system 'M': Ra, Rz, Rv, Rp and Rt. The contact angle was measured using transparent polyurethane (PU) coating and distilled water. The influence of the system of sanding on the values of contact angle was analyzed by roughness parameter Ra.

AB  - Kvalitet proizvoda predstavlja jedan od ključnih ciljeva svake savremeno organizovane proizvodnje, što ga svrstava u grupu osnovnih izlaznih karakteristika proizvodnog procesa. Prema nacionalnom standardu ocena kvaliteta nameštaja se donosi na osnovu ispitivanja karakteristika kvaliteta koje su podeljene u četiri grupe uslova: funkcionalnost (funkcionalne mere i stabilnost), izdržljivost, otpornost površina i kvalitet materijala i tačnost izrade. U ovom radu ispitan je kvalitet trpezarijske stolice pri čemu su korišćeni različiti elementi veze i dati su predlozi za poboljšanje konstrukcije. Dve grupe stolica su izrađene uz pomoć montažno-demontažnih spojeva, dok je jedna grupa uzoraka spajana pomoću stolarskih spojeva uz upotrebu lepka.
AB  - Products quality presents one of the main causes of every contemporary organized production, which includes it, in group of basic exit characteristics. According to national standard, quality mark is based on testing of its quality characteristics. A characteristic of quality has been divided into four groups of demands: functionality (functional dimensions and stability tests), rigidity, surface rigidity, quality of materials and work piece accuracy. Dining chair has been investigated by use of different wood joints, and some remarks on construction has been given. Two groups of investigated chairs has been mounted by use of metal fittings, and one group has been connected with wood dowels by use of PVA wood glue.

A characteristic of quality has been divided into four groups of demands: functionality (functional dimensions and stability tests), rigidity, surface rigidity, quality of materials and work piece accuracy. Dining chair has been investigated by use of different wood joints, and some remarks on construction has been given. Two groups of investigated chairs has been mounted by use of metal fittings, and one group has been connected with wood dowels by use of PVA wood glue.",
