AB - There is not enough attention regarding production management, especially concerning intermittent processes in the most wood processing companies in Serbia. Production planning and control are mostly established on traditional and informal concepts of management. This paper gives the results of the current situation and suggests methods for the improvement of the production planning and control in wood processing companies. The research results confirm the poor state of one of the major functional areas of business. Therefore, the introduction of an appropriate system for production management is proposed. The improvement of production performances and costumer services and lowering of capital costs can be achieved through acceptance of this concept.
