Morphometric variability of narrow-leaved ash samaras at the test-tree level

AB  - The aim of this research is to assess F. angustifolia test tree variability based on the morphometric traits and shape of samara from the locality Karapandža. Twenty adult trees were randomly selected. From each individual 100 fully developed samaras were analyzed. The following traits were analyzed: the length and width of samara, the length of seed, ratio between the length of seed and samara, the weight of 100 seeds by individual, samara shape and samara top shape. The obtained results indicated a considerable variability within the studied individuals at the level of samara morphometric traits. Considering that all sampled individuals were from the same populations we could suppose that this variability was not induced by different environmental factors (climate or soil), then with the existence of specific genotypes. Classification based on samara size says that our individuals could belong to large size samaras, i.e. the type known as f. macrocarpa. However, since there is no uniformity of samara shapes within the majority of studied individuals we cannot classify them in accordance with samara shape classification.

Varijabilnost morfoloških karakteristika listova i plodova test stabala američkog koprivića (Celtis occidentalis L.) sa područja Sombora

AB  - Na području grada Sombora zastupljene su dve vrste iz roda Celtis L., od kojih je najbrojniji Celtis occidentalis L., rasprostranjen u parkovima i drvoredima, koji su postali simbol grada, sa svojom neprocenjivom socijalnom, ekonomskom i ekološkom vrednošću. Njihovo današnje stanje moglo bi se opisati kao zabrinjavajuće. U radu su prikazani rezultati analize morfoloških karakteristika listova i plodova američkog koprivića, obavljene na nivou 15 test stabala, u cilju procene genetičke varijabilnosti raspoloživog genofonda u drvoredima Sombora. Analizirani su sledeći parametri: ukupna dužina lista, širina lisne ploče, dužina peteljke, širina lisne ploče sa leve i desne strane u odnosu na glavni nerv, prečnik plodova i masa 1000 plodova. Urađena je deskriptivna statistika, jednofaktorijalna analiza varijanse, LSD test i klaster analiza. Najkrupniji listovi evidentirani su kod stabala 1, 5 i 11, a najsitniji kod stabala 7, 9 i 13, pri čemu se genotip 1, na osnovu više karakteristika, izdvojio od ostalih test stabala. Najveće srednje vrednosti prečnika koštunica evidentirane su kod stabala 4, 12 i 3. Dobijeni rezultati ukazuju na zadovoljavajući stepen varijabilnosti analiziranih svojstava na nivou test stabala, koji predstavlja dobru polaznu osnovu za upoznavanje i adekvatno korišćenje genetskog potencijala vrste, kao i za konzervaciju raspoloživog genofonda.
AB  - Two species of the genus Celtis L. are represented in the city of Sombor, of which the most numerous is Celtis occidentalis L., prevalent in parks and alleys, which became a symbol of the city, with its priceless social, economic and environmental value. Their present situation could be described as alarming. The paper presents the results of the analysis of morphological characteristics of leaves and fruits of common hackberry, investigated at the level of 15 test trees, in order to assess the genetic variability of the available gene pool in the tree alleys at Sombor area. Following parameters were analyzed: total leaf length, lamina width, petiole length, and lamina width at the left and right side from midrib, as well as drupe diameter and weight of 1000 fruits. The descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance, LSD test and cluster analysis were done. The largest leaves were recorded at trees 1, 5 and 11, and smallest at the trees 7, 9 and 13, wherein genotype 1 was distanced from the other test trees, on multiple characteristics. The highest average of drupes diameter were recorded at trees number 4, 12, and 3. The obtained results indicate a satisfactory degree of variability of the analyzed characteristics at the level of test trees, which provides a good basis for exploring and proper use of the genetic potential of this species, as well as for conservation of the available gene pool.
