AB - Selected South-Eastern European countries (SEEC - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia) represent significant producers and exporters of wood flooring in Europe. In 2018, 9.4 % of Europe's wood flooring production originated from this region. The region is a net exporter of wood flooring since it exports over 50 % of total production. The most important market for the export of wood flooring is the European Union with a share of over 60 % in total exports. Trends in this market are important for manufacturers and exporters from the region. Therefore, the analysis of the impact of the European Union imports on wood flooring production in the SEEC was conducted by application of econometric modelling. The parameters of the obtained model show that the increase of approximately 0.75 % could be expected in the production of wood flooring in selected South-Eastern European countries for each precentral increase in the European Union imports. In addition to these results, the paper presents the analysis of the competitiveness of wood flooring export from the region measured by the Competitiveness Growth Index (RCA1). The aim of this analysis was to quantify the level of their price and non-price competitiveness in the European Union market. Conducted analyses show that the Competitiveness Growth Index (RCA1) had positive values (higher than one) for most significant countries from the SEEC for most of the observed period.

AB - The paper gives an overview of the research results in the use of cross laminated timber (CLT) for the construction of multi-storey residential and nonresidetial buildings in Europe and the world. The tallest building in the world named Forte and the tallest building in Europe - Stadthaus, Murray Grove present the most significant construction objects made of cross laminated timber (CLT). These multistorey wooden buildings should present examples of good practice which could positively influence the growth and development of the construction industry in Serbia and countries in the Balkan region. The research included a brief overview of cross laminated timber market with special reference to the beginning of production and countries that are the dominant producers in this field. In addition, the research also involve the contribution of wood construction to mitigation of climate change. Unavoidable fire resistance of buildings made of of CLT was also the subject of the research in this paper. It referred to particular objects made of CLT in terms of period of time in which they may be exposed to fire, as well as possibilities for improving the properties of fire resistance through the use of other materials for its covering.

AB - The paper shows results of researching the market of glued laminated timber as the most frequent innovative timber product in constructing timberframed residential facilities in Europe and Serbia. The research included the development of production, consumption and trade flows for the most significant countries in the European Union and Serbia. Additionally, the paper gives characteristics of this innovative timber product regarding dimensions, allowed deviations of dimensions defined in adequate European standard, wood species it is made of and fire resistance. The last part of the paper shows results of econometric modeling of the impact of building timber-framed houses on the consumption of glued laminated timber in Austria as one of the countries belonging to the group of the largest consumers of this innovative timber product in Europe. Taking into consideration that the substitution of classic building materials, primarily concrete, steel and aluminum, with glued laminated timber in residential construction contributes to the reduction of carbon-dioxide emission and climate change mitigation, research results of the effects of such substitution are presented in the last chapter in this paper.

AB - In order to observe the effects of use of wood energy for the purpose of this paper, the survey of fuel consumption for heating of all school buildings in Serbia was conducted. In this aim, the surveying of 4,892 school buildings in 24 districts in Serbia was conducted. Out of that number, 2,324 school buildings are using coal or combination coal/wood for purpose of heating. In the aim of analyzing the ecological and economic effects of conversion of coal with wood fuels, the data on energy value of all types of coal used in these school buildings, as well as their procurement prices were collected. Based on executed calculations, the total demands for energy for heating as well as the total costs of heating in all the school buildings using coal in Serbia were obtained. Benchmark analysis of quantities showed the ecological and economic effects of conversion of coal with wood fuels for school buildings in all districts in Serbia.

AB - Primary wood processing and secondary furniture production are strategic sectors in most western Balkan countries with regard to contribution to gross domestic product, exports, and employment. After abandoning a socialist business system in the post-Yugoslavia era, all countries in the region have developed transitional reforms to become free-market economies. Some of these reforms include changes in ownership structure, recapitalization and modernization, adapting to meet import standards of developed countries, and developing strategic linkages with supply-chain counterparts in developed countries. This article contains the results of research conducted on the current situation in primary wood processing and furniture industries in seven western Balkan countries. A common characteristic of these sectors across all countries is the century-long tradition of forestry and forest utilization. The development of these sectors will require sustainable management of the region's rich forest resources, political and economic systems that are transparent and market driven, as well as investments in production technology and employee training.
